Erika Kirk reveals surprising moment she discovered husband Charlie was assassinated

Erika Kirk, the heartbroken widow of Charlie Kirk, recently opened up about her initial thoughts following the tragic event where her husband was killed, during an interview on The Megyn Kelly Show.

Erika Kirk, 37, had previously expressed her sorrow over not having the chance to say goodbye to her husband before the 31-year-old conservative commentator was fatally shot in the neck. She revealed to former Fox host Megyn Kelly that she was ‘praying to God’ immediately after Charlie was shot.

On that tragic day, September 10, Charlie had departed early to attend a campus debate, while Erika was visiting a hospital in Phoenix for her mother. At 11:23 am, she received a call from her husband’s assistant with the devastating news. Erika mentioned she had a sense that something terrible had occurred.

In a preview shared on X, Kelly asked the new CEO of Turning Points USA about the couple’s family plans: “You told me this in private — How many kids did you want to have?”

Kirk responded that they ‘wanted to have four,’ and shared that upon hearing the news of her husband being shot, she hoped for a positive surprise.

“And I was praying to God that I was pregnant when he got murdered,” she told Kelly.

This hope was something Erika considered as police and federal agents pursued the alleged 22-year-old shooter, Tyler Robinson.

Kelly remarked: “Oh, wow. I thought of that once… Whether it was meant to be or whether we’d get news like that.”

Less than two months since the shooting, Kirk became emotional when reflecting on their dreams of a larger family.

“I know,” she said, wiping her tears away.

“I was like, ‘oh, goodness, that was going to be the ultimate blessing out of this catastrophe’. So, now when I see young couples, I tell them, ‘Please, don’t put it off.’”

She continued with urgency: “Especially if you’re a young woman. Don’t put it off, you can always have a career, you can always, you know, go back to work. You can never just go back to having children. And they grow so fast and so quickly, but I just, I was praying. Both of us were. We were just excited to just expand our family.”

Kelly then referenced Erika’s two young children: “Thank God you’ve got two.”

“A boy and a girl,” Kirk responded, reflecting on her one-year-old and three-year-old.

“One day, they’ll find out. Right now they’re just little loves. But one day they’ll find out that they’re Charlie Kirk’s children and they’ll know what that means,” she said, prompting applause from the audience.

In a different part of the poignant interview, Catholic Kelly inquired if the tragic events in Orem, Utah, ever led Erika to feel anger towards God.

Erika replied: “The enemy would love for me to be angry.”

She added: “He would love it because it would distract me from building what Charlie entrusted to me.

“Raising our babies, Turning Point, being there for the team, being there for what the future holds.”
