Ruth Codd has shared the reason for opting to have her second leg amputated.
Codd, recognized for her roles in The Midnight Club, How To Train Your Dragon, The Fall of the House of Usher, and more recently, Celebrity Traitors, recently used TikTok to provide an update on her health.
At 29, Codd had her first leg amputated at 23 due to a soccer injury at 15 that did not heal correctly. She has now undergone amputation of her second leg below the knee.
“Hi guys, so I have some good news and some bad news,” Codd began in a video that has garnered over a million views. “Good news, we’ve had a full circle moment, I’m back making TikTok content in my parents’ house.”

She continued: “Bad news, I can’t do it in front of that lovely blue floral wallpaper anymore, due to the fact that, that room is upstairs, and I’ve just had my second below-knee amputation.
“So unfortunately, those facilities are not available to me at the current moment in time, yes, so lots of unpack there for everyone involved.”
The Irish actress mentioned she had also acquired a new wheelchair, which she named ‘Fat Tony’, describing its speed as ‘f**k all’.
Codd has received an outpouring of support online, to which she humorously replied in the comments: “Guys stop being nice to me it’s weirding me out.”
Explaining her decision for the second amputation, Codd mentioned that extended crutch use had ‘destroyed’ the joints in her feet.
A week before the surgery, Codd stated in a video shared on FFTV’s Instagram: “The way I used my crutches, I was always kind of on my tippy toes, so the joints in my feet were destroyed by the end of the eight years.”
“I’ve already had to have all my toes amputated,” she elaborated. “But with the second one it’s just the same situation. It was just my quality of life.”
Codd remarked that her leg was ‘never going to get any better at this point’.
“They can only stop it from getting worse,” she added. “The amount of health problems and stuff I’ve had over the last year — I haven’t let it stop me from doing anything but I do feel like it’s hindered me and made my ability to do my job more difficult.”
