Lily Allen has opened up about the emotional whirlwind and financial strain she endured following her split from David Harbour, the star of Stranger Things.
The singer, who ended her marriage in late 2024, shared with her fans the reasoning behind her decision to undergo breast augmentation shortly after a stay at a trauma center.
During her podcast, Miss Me?, Allen initially referred to the surgery as a personal “glow up,” but in an interview with The Observer, she delved deeper into her motivations.
“Because I’ve always been really small up top, I was worried about becoming really bottom-heavy. And so I felt like…” she began.
Continuing her thought, Allen added: “This is how I talk to myself! I felt like if I got boobs, it would make me feel better about gaining weight. So that was my reasoning.”
The surgery followed a two-week treatment at a trauma center in Nashville, Tennessee, which she described as both “f***ing excruciatingly painful” and “really helpful.”
She also visited Kris Jenner’s plastic surgeon in Manhattan as part of her journey to reconnect with her “authentic self.” Despite her sobriety, she mentioned not recalling much of the experience and being prescribed Percocet, a medication for “moderately severe pains.”
Allen, who shares two daughters with a former partner, described the divorce as “devastating,” leading to sleepless nights, loss of appetite, and substantial financial costs.
Her newest album, West End Girl, draws from her experiences post-breakup with Harbour, whom she accuses of infidelity.
The album marks her first release since 2017, and Allen has been spotted driving a $160,000 Porsche and carrying a $22,000 designer Hermes bag after moving back to London.
In the song “Madeline,” she addresses the woman she believes was involved with Harbour, noting that she and her husband had an open marriage arrangement.
A verse from the song highlights: “We had an arrangement / Be discreet and don’t be blatant / There had to be payment / It had to be with strangers / But you’re not a stranger, Madeline.”
Allen clarified that the name is a pseudonym, while costume designer Natalie Tippett denied any prolonged affair, calling the accusations “false” and expressing that she felt “extremely violated.”
To clarify her stance, Tippett posted on her Instagram Story: “I did not have a three year affair with anyone. I’m unsure why this person wants so badly to pit people against me or create this narrative that we both know is false based on the actual messages that I have saved between us. The same ones that have now been referenced in a song without my consent.”
