Macaulay Culkin shares firm guidelines for fans approaching him in public

Macaulay Culkin has revealed that he has a specific set of rules for fans who recognize him in public.

Having risen to fame as a child in the iconic 1990 holiday movie, Home Alone, Culkin is no stranger to public attention.

The 45-year-old actor has built a successful career with roles in films like My Girl, The Good Son, Getting Even with Dad, and more recently in the TV series American Horror Story.

Now a father to two children, Culkin has shared that he has established clear guidelines for encounters with fans in public settings.

During an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, Culkin explained that he appreciates his fans but prefers they maintain a respectful distance, particularly when he is with his family.

“Don’t approach me when I’m at the dinner table. I don’t like that,” he stated.

He added, “Don’t approach me when I’m with my kids,” referring to his children, Dakota, four, and Carson, three, with partner Brenda Song.

Culkin emphasized that fans should avoid following him, especially in private spaces like the bathroom.

He explained that he has set these boundaries to have control over interactions with the public in his personal life.

“I just realized that I’m in charge of the social contract,” Culkin said. “I’m in charge of the interaction. I can guide this interaction.”

Culkin gained international fame at the age of 10 with Home Alone, quickly becoming a household name.

Following the success of Home Alone 2 and other films, he decided to step back from acting to explore other aspects of his life.

Discussing his decision on the Mythical Kitchen show, Culkin shared, “What I wanted was to be with people my own age.”

He continued, “A lot of the stuff I did when I was a kid — I wasn’t doing ensembles. It was me.”

Culkin expressed a desire to experience typical adolescent activities, saying, “I wanted to go out. I wanted to date girls. I wanted to hang out with people my own age. I wanted to go to a party,” he added. “I can’t tell you how many bar mitzvahs I missed.”
