Kirsten Dunst throws shade after husband Jesse Plemons is snubbed by the Oscars

Kirsten Dunst has expressed solidarity with her husband, Jesse Plemons, following his omission from this year’s Oscars nominations.

The Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday, but Plemons did not appear on the list of honored actors.

Plemons, who gained early recognition with a significant role in the TV series Breaking Bad, recently took on a part in the film Bugonia, featuring alongside Emma Stone.

In this movie, Plemons plays Teddy Gatz, a deranged beekeeper who abducts Stone’s character, a pharmaceutical CEO named Michelle Fuller.

Known for his portrayal of quirky and menacing characters, Plemons’ role as Todd Alquist in Breaking Bad involved carrying out increasingly violent and unsettling actions.

Dunst showed her support by reposting an Instagram story that another actor from Bugonia, Stavros Halkias, had shared.

The post included an image of Halkias with an angry expression, overlaid with an image of a hand holding a gun aimed at the camera.

The caption on the image stated: “Me to everyone who didn’t nominate Jesse Plemons for Best Actor tho”.

By sharing the post, Dunst appeared to support her husband and his performance in the film.

The nominees for this year’s Best Actor category include Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio in One Battle After Another, Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Michael B. Jordan in Sinners, and Wagner Moura in The Secret Agent.

Despite Plemons not being nominated, Bugonia still received several nominations, including Best Picture, and Emma Stone, an Oscar winner, is up for Best Actress.

In addition to showing her support, Dunst shared a video of producer Ev Durán lauding Plemons’ work in the film.

Durán stated, “Jesse Plemons gives one of the greatest performances of all time.”

He continued, “Jesse Plemons in this film gives [a] Daniel Day-Lewis, Sidney Poitier–level transcendent performance that I worry is being completely overlooked for f***in’ Chalamet’s Marty Supreme, which was a very good performance, but wasn’t – what Plemons does in this movie is beyond.”

Earlier this month, Dunst also shared another image from the movie, captioning it: “Some top-level s***.”

In an interview with PEOPLE, the Interview with a Vampire actress discussed her ongoing career in the film and television industry since her breakout in the 1994 Anne Rice adaptation.

“I think that I just feel very proud that I can keep doing films that I want to do,” she shared.

“And that […] the industry has embraced me still and keeps doing so.

“I really appreciate growing up, finding my path, and being part of making movies that mean a lot to me.”
