Jennifer Aniston’s inner circle is split over her new romance with Jim Curtis, with some friends privately questioning whether the hypnotist has genuine intentions.
The “Friends” star, 57, and Curtis, 50, have been drawing closer in recent months, but not everyone in her world is convinced. “Some of Jen’s friends aren’t totally sold on Jim yet,” one source close to the actress said exclusively. “They worry he could be an opportunist and feel like he can come off a bit performative.”
That skepticism runs deep among some of Aniston’s longtime confidants. “Everybody adores Jen and just wants the best for her because she absolutely deserves the world,” the insider continued. “At the end of the day, if she’s happy then of course they’re happy for her, but they’re also really protective of her and don’t ever want to see her get taken advantage of.”
The source added that the wariness isn’t universal. “Some of them are just having a difficult time fully trusting him right now.”
Yet another faction within Aniston’s circle has fully embraced the relationship. A second insider said exclusively that Curtis has won over plenty of people close to the Emmy winner. “Others absolutely adore Jim and feel like he fits in seamlessly with their circle of friends,” this source said. “They haven’t seen Jen this happy in a long time and think Jen and Jim complement each other on so many levels.”
According to that insider, these friends “couldn’t be happier for her,” and wish the couple “nothing but the best.”
The divided opinions surface as Aniston and Curtis have grown increasingly open about their relationship. The pair first sparked romance rumors in July 2025 after photographers captured them enjoying an intimate vacation together on Spain’s Mallorca island. Aniston had reportedly followed Curtis’s work as a hypnotist for years before they connected.
Curtis recently disclosed that mutual friends introduced them, and their connection began as friendship before turning romantic. By November 2025, Aniston made things Instagram-official, posting a photo of herself embracing Curtis while wishing him a happy birthday.
She has since spoken publicly about what drew her to him, calling him “very special, very normal and very kind.”
The couple’s public profile reached a new level Wednesday at New York City’s 92nd Street Y, where Aniston interviewed Curtis about his new book, “The Book of Possibility.” During the conversation, Curtis opened up about serious health struggles he faced in his 20s, when lesions discovered on his spinal cord left him partially paralyzed and dealing with chronic nerve pain.
Aniston also displayed her trademark humor during the event. “I went to Steiner school just down the street so I would come to this gym every Thursday,” she said, per the outlet. “And I wasn’t very sporty, but we had to do dodgeball and there were these huge red balls. And there was no field; it was just indoors, so you had to run for your life. So it’s quite a full circle moment to be back here with you.”
She then looked at Curtis and quipped, “Well … speaking of dodging balls …” The joke sent audience members into hysterics. At the interview’s close, Aniston asked her beau, “Have I completely embarrassed you?”
Representatives for Aniston and Curtis did not immediately respond to the outlet’s requests for comment on the divided friend-group reactions.
Aniston and Curtis were also recently spotted touring New York City apartments together, fueling speculation they may be taking their romance to the next level.
