Why Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson ‘wasn’t keen on having kids’ before welcoming twin daughters and announcing fiancé breakup

Jesy Nelson, known for her role in Little Mix, revealed that before having her twin daughters, she didn’t envision herself as a mother. She described her pregnancy experience as ‘very strange’. Her twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster, were born last May. Recently, Nelson shared the emotional news of their diagnosis with SMA Type 1.

The Cleveland Clinic states that SMA is a ‘genetic condition that causes worsening muscle weakness’. Although there is no cure, some therapies and medications can alleviate symptoms.

Nelson discussed her unexpected journey into motherhood on the Great Company with Jamie Laing podcast.

“I never wanted children, did you know, oh my God,” she expressed.

“Anytime I met anyone, and they’d be like, also, ‘I want kids … [I always thought] ‘F*** sake, here we go’. Because I just did not I was not maternal at all.”

Nelson continued to explain the unexpected joy she felt upon discovering her pregnancy: “And then when I fell pregnant, which wasn’t on purpose, this feeling that I got was just very strange and abnormal because I was like: ‘Why am I happy?'”

This unexpected pregnancy left Nelson with a mix of emotions, including ‘fear’ and ‘worry’. She elaborated: “It really freaked me out. I felt butterflies, but like excitement, but then also … like fear and worry.”

“And I was like, I couldn’t understand it. I couldn’t understand why I was feeling these when I have never wanted children.”

She further shared how her former fiancé, Zion Foster, was eager to be a parent, which contrasted with her mindset.

She continued: “This is so awkward. And you know, we’d been together like, two years at this point, so, yeah, so when I felt pregnant, I was like, I was so overwhelmed by all these feelings.”

“I never wanted children, and then the universe gave me twins.”

In a recent conversation with the Daily Mail, the 34-year-old emphasized that their ‘main priority’ is their children, which influenced her and Foster’s decision to part ways.

Nelson explained that the ‘energy’ between her and Foster ‘wasn’t right’, leading them to separate to ensure a ‘positive, happy and uplifting’ environment for their daughters.

“We are still friends, and we are still united in co-parenting our daughters, they are our main focus, that’s all we can do, be the best possible parents we can right now,” Nelson said.
