Kevin Federline has shared a statement after his ex-wife Britney Spears was arrested.
Spears was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and is set to appear at Ventura County Superior Court on 4 May.
According to police, she was stopped after officers observed her car being driven “erratically at a high rate of speed”.
They also alleged she “showed signs of impairment” and said she agreed to a roadside sobriety test.
In the wake of the arrest, Federline addressed the situation through a statement issued by his attorney.
His lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, provided the comments to TMZ on 6 March and said he and Federline had both spoken with Spears after the incident.
“Kevin hopes for the best for Britney. And if help is necessary, he hopes that she will neither resist it or those who are attempting to work with her.”
“The concern is whether this is just a one off or a one more.”
Spears’ representative also issued a response following the arrest.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.
“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.
“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”
The news comes as Federline, 47, has recently released a memoir titled You Thought You Knew, which includes allegations about Spears.
Federline and Spears were married from 2004 until 2007. They share two sons, Sean Preston, now 20, and Jayden James, 19.
Among the book’s claims is an allegation that Federline once saw Spears standing over their sleeping children while holding a knife.
