Kim Kardashian rang in her 46th birthday with a family dinner that doubled as a showcase for archival Paco Rabanne chainmail.
The Skims founder gathered Wednesday night at Baldi, the restaurant inside the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, joined by mom Kris Jenner, sisters Kylie Jenner, Khloé Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian, and brother Rob Kardashian. For the occasion, new stylist Law Roach pulled two coordinating mini caftans from Paco Rabanne’s haute couture fall 1996 collection.

The first look was an emerald green metal mesh caftan with a plunging neckline, a center slit that revealed her black underwear, and a matching bejeweled headpiece. She paired it with black stiletto mule sandals by Paris Texas, priced at $745.

Once inside the party, Kardashian changed into a blood-red version of the same design. She accessorized it exactly as it had appeared on the runway three decades prior: with a red beaded headpiece and a matching oversized cross necklace. Both caftans featured batwing sleeves and crystal embellishments.
The brand shared that Olivier Rousteing, Kardashian’s longtime friend who was named creative director of Rabanne in July, helped select her two sparkling looks. Rousteing will show his first collection for the house in March.
Kardashian’s connection to the designer runs deep. She was a fixture at Balmain during Rousteing’s 14-year tenure there, posing for a campaign with then-husband Kanye West in 2014 and wearing the label to the 2016 Met Gala. She even joked on “The Kardashians” that the designer might “have a little something to do” with daughter North’s existence, since she wore a royal blue Balmain gown the night she conceived her in 2012.

Video from inside Wednesday’s party shows the birthday girl blowing out the candles on a giant raspberry-covered cake. It marked her second round of birthday celebrations this month.

Earlier, Kardashian had rung in 46 early on a trip to the Philippines with boyfriend Lewis Hamilton. That celebration featured an oceanside dinner where she wore a Mark Fast macramé top made of little more than strings.

The back-to-back festivities cap a month that has also seen renewed attention to Kardashian’s personal life, with reports that she and NFL star Odell Beckham Jr. Have been growing closer.

Kardashian’s embrace of sheer, body-baring fashion for her birthday continues a signature style that has defined her public appearances for years. The archival Rabanne picks also demonstrate the increasing influence of Roach, who came on as her stylist after she parted ways with previous collaborators.

The designer’s involvement in selecting her looks suggests the birthday wardrobe was as much a professional gesture as a personal one, with Rousteing preparing to unveil his debut Rabanne collection in the coming weeks.

Kardashian’s next public appearance is expected to align with the March debut of Rousteing’s first collection for Rabanne.
