Tiger Woods’ ex Kristin Smith reveals how she really feels about DUI arrest in blunt social media statement

Kristin Smith has issued a statement saying she is being “dragged back into [her] past” following Tiger Woods’ recent DUI arrest.

Smith dated Woods in 2016, and the pair split not long before his 2017 DUI case. During that earlier incident, police found the 15-time major winner slumped over the steering wheel of a parked Mercedes-Benz in Florida.

Woods later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and received a one-year probation sentence, BBC News reported at the time.

He has now had another run-in with law enforcement after a crash on Friday (March 27), when he rolled his vehicle.

According to officers at the scene, the 50-year-old had alcohol in his system. Woods allegedly refused to provide a urine sample after police suspected impairment, and he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

He has since been released on bail.

In the wake of the latest arrest, Smith addressed the situation after appearing to be approached for comment. The stylist — and ex-wife of Gerald Sensabaugh — said she has long since moved on, and suggested renewed attention has been difficult.

She wrote on her Instagram Story: “Regarding recent events and my past. I have moved forward and being dragged back into these moments, and untrue narratives is triggering.”

Smith added: “Beyond that, after traumatic unrelated incidents over the last couple of years, I don’t handle being unexpectedly approached or confront[ed] well, and it can be deeply unsettling for me.

“Anxiety and fear of my family and me being contacted, watched, or followed, in hopes of provoking a reaction about something that not involved me for a very long time simply does not get easier.”

She continued: “I have taken the time to process my personal experiences and am grateful for moments that have shaped me,” she continued. “I hope people will remember that the person they have celebrated and been entertained by is, above all, a human being, and deserving of decency too, just like anyone else.”

Smith also asked for privacy for herself and her family, ending her message by explaining why she has stayed quiet for years: “For nearly ten years, I have chosen silence around this situation. That decision wasn’t always easy. Finally, not abandoning myself feels cathartic. Moving on.”

Woods’ current girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, has not publicly commented on the arrest. Ahead of Friday’s incident, a source told PEOPLE the couple had been doing well.

The pair first went public with their relationship in May last year.
