Jenny McCarthy has shared her thoughts on Jim Carrey’s recent appearance at a major awards ceremony in France.
Carrey was in Paris on February 26 for the César Awards, where many viewers noted he looked notably different from how he appeared at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
The change in his look was enough to reignite online speculation, including familiar conspiracy claims that the person attending wasn’t Carrey at all, but a “clone.”
That kind of theory has circulated about multiple famous names over the years, with stars such as Avril Lavigne, Eminem, and Paul McCartney also having been pulled into similar conspiracies.
McCarthy, who previously dated Carrey, has now commented on his César Awards appearance.

Setting aside the online rumors, McCarthy focused on what stood out to her most about Carrey during the event.
“He looked very happy at that award show,” she said. “And I was happy for him.
“That’s the first thing I noticed. I said, ‘Oh wow, Jim looks really happy.'”
Her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, added that the attention on Carrey’s appearance may have distracted people from another detail.
“You know, that’s the part that, sadly, people miss,” he said. “We’re so obsessed with how he looks that we didn’t consider how happy he looked.”
Carrey attended the ceremony to receive an Honorary César.
Grégory Caulier, the general delegate of the César Awards, said in a statement to Variety that Carrey was “extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation.”

He said: “Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions. He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.”
When asked about the focus on Carrey’s looks, he played it down.
Addressing Carrey’s appearance, he added: “For me, it’s a non-issue. Just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”
Carrey and McCarthy began dating in 2005, before ending their relationship in 2010.
In a statement at the time, McCarthy said: “I’m so grateful for the years Jim and I shared together. I will continue to be in his daughter’s life and will always keep Jim as a leading man in my heart.”
A representative for Jim Carrey previously told PEOPLE in a statement: “Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award.”
