Ever dreamed of bedding down in a place that looks like it belongs in a sci-fi movie? In Pembrokeshire, Wales, there’s a UFO-themed stay that puts that idea into reality — and it’s also close to an area famed for strange sightings.
The Spodnic UFO camping pod has become a bucket-list stop for visitors from around the globe, especially those who love all things space and want a fully committed, out-of-this-world setting for their break.
The project began more than ten years ago when Martin and Carol Anne Johnson bought the land with plans to create three unusual holiday lets. The Spodnic UFO has since become the standout, built to feel like a genuine “landing” in the countryside.
The one-of-a-kind accommodation even featured on Channel 4’s travel series World’s Most Secret Hotels, where Martin spoke about what they wanted to achieve with the design.
“It looks like it’s just landed from outer space and aliens could come out,” he said.
“It’s such a secret location that people wouldn’t know is here. A lot of the time, parents won’t tell their children where they’re staying, then when they arrive, they see a UFO and they’re off, running around!”

From the outside, it’s designed to resemble a craft that has just arrived: supported by three tripod-style legs and fitted with a drop-down entrance rather than a typical door. Inside, the NASA-inspired details push the theme even further.
Martin opted against a standard hinged doorway, choosing instead a hatch-like opening that better matches the “spacecraft” concept, while flashing lights help sell the illusion.
There’s also a theatrical touch straight out of classic UFO folklore: a smoke machine is built into the setup and activates when the door opens, adding to the dramatic landing effect.
Geared toward family breaks, the holiday let includes four bedrooms, making it a roomy option for groups of space fans looking for something totally different.
Sci-fi lovers get another nod as well, with bathroom facilities styled as a Tardis from Doctor Who, offering an extra layer of fandom appeal.
And while the location leans heavily into extraterrestrial vibes, Martin said in a recent phone interview that he personally hasn’t witnessed any UFO activity from the site — though that won’t stop hopeful guests from keeping an eye on the skies.

The pod is also conveniently close — around 25 minutes away — from what some have dubbed a local “Bermuda Triangle” for alien reports, centred on the village of Broad Haven.
Broad Haven is linked with a remarkable cluster of claims from 1977, when around 450 alleged encounters were reported in the area, cementing its place in Welsh UFO lore.
One of those who still stands by what he saw is David Davies, now 57, who said he witnessed something unusual there as a child — and remains convinced about the experience decades later.
“From behind some trees, this thing popped up in front of me,” he recalled as per the BBC.
“It was silver, cigar-shaped and about 45ft long and there was just this thought that came into my mind that I had to run away.
“Mothers can tell when you’re lying and [mine] was absolutely convinced what I was saying was the truth.”
Watch World’s Most Secret Hotels on Saturdays at 8pm from Saturday 18 April on Channel 4.
