90 Day Fiancé star Jenny Slatten has spoken about when she first realised something felt off, before later receiving an amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis.
In an interview with People, her husband, Sumit Singh, said Jenny’s earliest noticeable symptom appeared in December 2024, when she ended up choking ‘badly’ on water.
From there, the 68-year-old’s health issues escalated, with migraines and increasing difficulty swallowing — even when trying to take basic medication.
At first, the pair believed the swallowing issues could be linked to an infection, but the problem didn’t improve and instead continued to progress.
Not long after, Jenny began to pick up on changes in her speech, which started to slow. Singh said it reached a point where she would avoid talking altogether, even with those closest to her.
That was when they ‘knew something was wrong’.

After Jenny attended a public event in December 2025 — travelling to New York for a 90 Day Fiancé Christmas party — viewers voiced concerns about her health, and one person even suggested she could have ALS.
“And then I find out that these symptoms she was having — this is what it looks like,” Singh told People.
The couple then headed back to India, where they live, and pursued medical advice to explain Jenny’s symptoms. Tests ultimately confirmed she had ALS.
According to Mayo Clinic, ALS is a degenerative condition that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.
The illness can cause muscle weakness, trouble walking, slurred speech, difficulty swallowing, and issues such as tripping and falling.
Mayo Clinic also notes there is no cure, and symptoms typically worsen over time.

A genetic link is identified in around 10 percent of ALS cases. Jenny’s father died from the disease several years ago.
ALS is most frequently seen in people between 60 and the mid-80s, and evidence suggests factors such as smoking may also play a role in risk.
Jenny said she is currently exploring whether she qualifies for medication that may be able to slow progression of the condition.
“Right now we’re just looking and searching,” Jenny added to People, explaining she’s sharing her story because ‘maybe somebody will come forward with something’.
Even with the diagnosis, Jenny and Singh say they are in a strong place as a couple.
The actor explained: “I used to live for myself. But from [the] last so many years, I feel like doing [things] for someone who you love gives you happiness, I think that’s what love is. And that’s why we do things for each other, and that’s what make each other happy.”
