A star of iconic show Sex And The City has revealed why he dropped off the radar for three years, and it’s very exciting.
Jason Lewis, who played Jerry “Smith” Jerrod on the series about four friends navigating life and love in New York City, has explained what he’s been doing away from the spotlight.
On the show, Lewis’ character was Kim Cattrall’s on-screen love interest, but by 2023 he had largely stepped out of public view.
Now, after roughly three years out of the spotlight, the 54-year-old has resurfaced and shared the reason for his absence in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Lewis said he didn’t disappear without purpose, explaining he had “something to do” during that stretch and that he’s been busy behind the scenes.

That’s because, as confirmed in the May 28 interview, Lewis has been quietly writing a major fantasy book project—one far bigger than a single novel.
Rather than stopping at one book (or even one trilogy), he’s aiming for three trilogies set within the same overall series.
“I was in a space where I’ve been working on a fantasy book series. Three trilogies,” he revealed.
“[The trilogy is] closer to Lord of the Rings [than science fiction],” he said. “It’s epic fantasy. It’s my own magic system based more in physics than the soft magic of casting spells and stuff like that.”
Lewis added that the scope of the work required total focus, leaving little room for other commitments while he built the world and story.
“The kind of creative work that doesn’t leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that,” he said.

“It’s the kind of work that needs to find its people, though. I’m still in it, but I am far enough along now that it felt like it was time to resurface and share what I’ve been doing. More to come.”
He also said the project has been in development for a long time, and that its scale grew as he continued plotting and shaping the universe.
“I knew it was large when I started, but it just kept expanding and growing into this bigger and bigger world as I plotted it and figured it out,” he said.
To keep momentum on the ambitious undertaking, Lewis has committed to a strict routine—starting early and aiming to write between 1,000 and 2,000 words each day.
As for how the books are structured, he explained that the story spans three distinct trilogies, all taking place within the same fictional world.
