Reality TV star Olivia Plath reveals she’s had 2 abortions amid ongoing debate over drug law

Olivia Plath has shared that she has had two medication abortions involving mifepristone, as questions continue around future access to the drug.

The reality TV personality discussed her experience while speaking out in support of women’s reproductive healthcare and decision-making.

As outlined by the Mayo Clinic, mifepristone is typically used alongside misoprostol to end a pregnancy up to 70 days of gestation.

Plath, known for appearing on Welcome to Plathville, said her story highlights how much reproductive care has changed compared with what earlier generations could access.

In an Instagram video shared on May 21, she said: “This is probably also a good time to mention something that I’ve not talked about a lot publicly, but I’ve actually had two abortions, and for each of those I took mifepristone.”

Her post also promoted the My Body, My Festival in Washington DC on May 28, an event set up to raise funds for reproductive healthcare support.

In the caption, she wrote: “As someone who has benefitted from abortion healthcare, it is important to me that everyone has that same option and necessary support”.

In the video, Plath spoke about how different her mother’s circumstances were when she was growing up.

“My mom didn’t have the support I have to decide whether or not she wanted to be a parent or to have any kids,” she said. “She was from a different generation and she lived in a pretty religious, controlling world.”

She then described the strain she believes that situation placed on her family, adding: “I knew from the time I was a child that my mom had more kids than she wanted or felt that she was able to take care of. And it showed.”

The influencer added that she is “really thankful for therapy now,” and said she had long promised herself she wouldn’t repeat what she witnessed growing up.

She added: “I’m so thankful that I had the options that she didn’t.”

Plath shared her account ahead of the reproductive rights festival, saying she feels at peace with her decisions.

“Having an abortion is a decision I’ve never regretted, truly,” she said. “I knew I was not ready to be a parent.

“I never should have kids with that person. Every woman deserves that support and that autonomy over her own body.”
