New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has added to the intrigue around reports that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce could be getting married at Madison Square Garden after giving a notably evasive response when asked about the claim.
The 34-year-old New York City mayor was questioned by ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl in a preview clip from an upcoming edition of ABC’s This Week, released on Saturday 27 June.
As rumors swirl about a potential Taylor Swift wedding in New York City next weekend, @JonKarl asked Mayor Zohran Mamdani about the chatter.

Rather than directly addressing the rumour, Mamdani replied: “You know, what I am here to say is that whoever is getting married in New York City, I think it’s hard to beat the City Clerk’s Office but many will try and soon there will be more news,”
Karl then tried again, asking: “Is somebody getting married at Madison Square Garden on July 3rd? Somebody famous?”
Mamdani still would not give a straight answer and said: “Are you hearing that? I think they’re calling me now.”
While the exchange has fuelled even more chatter online, neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly confirmed a wedding date or venue. The pair announced their engagement in August 2025, but the exact timing and location of any ceremony have remained the subject of intense speculation.

The moment arrives amid long-running chatter about Swift and Kelce’s wedding arrangements following their reported engagement in August 2025.
Speculation has intensified in recent months, with discussion ranging from the guest list to the location, timing and format of the ceremony.
Recent reporting has pointed to permits and event planning activity around Madison Square Garden, but those documents do not by themselves confirm that the couple will marry there. Public records have indicated a permit for loading and unloading theatrical materials at the arena from 29 June to 4 July, along with a separate application for a canopy or tent outside the Garden for an event involving up to 999 people.
New details appeared to bolster the Madison Square Garden theory last week. On Wednesday 24 June, The New York Times reported that a permit had been submitted to shut streets around the venue from 2 July until midday on 4 July, linked to an event due to take place on 3 July.
Us Weekly has since reported that a source confirmed the ceremony is expected to happen inside Madison Square Garden. Even so, people said to be close to the couple reportedly do not know every detail, with one insider claiming guests have not been told the exact ceremony location.
“Taylor and Travis told guests to be in NYC. No other location was provided,”
The same source added that attendees have only been instructed to be in New York on Thursday 2 July and Friday 3 July.
“They’re putting their guests on hold for a couple days. They are spending a lot of money, in the millions.”

Separate reports have suggested the pair initially wanted to hold the wedding in Rhode Island, with 13 June reportedly set aside before those plans were revised because of security concerns.
One insider said: “Taylor and Travis really wanted their wedding in Rhode Island, and June 13 was the date, but security wouldn’t have worked because it could get out of hand with that kind of scale of an event,”
They continued: “Ocean House [in Westerly] was planned at one point, and then plans changed to New York.”
According to the same source, the Rhode Island site presented practical difficulties when it came to securing the area.
“Rhode Island wasn’t great because the nature of the access and the perimeters were too difficult to secure. So the main issue with Rhode Island ended up being security,”
Mamdani, who was sworn in as mayor on 1 January 2026, later turned the wedding speculation into a joke at a press conference, saying he wished the couple a lovely wedding while noting he had not been invited.
