Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen grew up in front of the public, but these days the twin sisters lead far more private lives.
The pair became famous as babies, sharing the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House when they were just nine months old.
From there, Mary-Kate and Ashley became two of the most recognizable child stars of their generation, appearing together in around 30 films and TV projects. Among their best-known titles were New York Minute, Our Lips Are Sealed, It Takes Two and Passport to Paris.
Their final movie as a duo was 2004’s New York Minute, after which they stepped away from acting and shifted their attention to the fashion world.
They launched The Row in 2005, and the label remains active today, offering luxury clothing for men and women, as well as handbags and accessories.
The Row’s products are firmly in the luxury category. In the New Arrivals section on its website, shoppers can find a trench coat priced at $3,650, a handbag listed at $4,080 and a t-shirt costing $1,020.
According to PEOPLE, the business reportedly brought in $12 million in annual sales during its first four years. Business of Fashion reported that The Row later attracted financial backing that valued the company at around $1 billion, underscoring how far the sisters’ low-key label has come.
Even with such a successful brand, the sisters have intentionally kept themselves from becoming the center of it, preferring the work to stand on its own.
“We’ve been there, we’ve done that, we started out that way,” Mary-Kate told Vogue in 2019.
“But this is the way we chose to move forward in our lives: to not be in the spotlight, to really have something that speaks for itself.”
Although they occasionally surface at public events, Mary-Kate and Ashley usually stay out of view. Their most recent rare appearance came at their brother Trent Olsen’s wedding, which took place in May 2026 and was later shared in photos on Instagram by Trent’s wife, Alexis Armistead.
In the wedding photos, the twins appeared in black outfits that matched the rest of the wedding party’s dress code. Their sister Elizabeth Olsen, known for her Marvel roles, was also there.
Alongside 37-year-old Elizabeth, Mary-Kate and Ashley also have two half-siblings: Courtney Taylor Olsen, 29, and Jake Olsen, 28.
Elizabeth has built a major career of her own, though she seldom discusses her older sisters in interviews. Still, she offered a brief glimpse into their family life while speaking to The Times last year.
She said that when she was younger, her sisters were ‘forced to watch all my plays my whole life and go to my dance performances’.
When asked whether they had ever offered her advice, she replied: “No. We’re just a supportive family. It feels irrelevant to talk about it after 15 years of working.”
