Lena Dunham Stuns Guests With X-Rated Joke in Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Wedding Speech

Guests may have arrived expecting the biggest conversation around Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding weekend to be about fashion, but a rehearsal dinner speech reportedly stole the spotlight.

On Thursday, July 2, at the couple’s reported pre-wedding event at Madison Square Garden’s Infosys Theater, Lena Dunham — a longtime member of Swift’s inner circle — was said to have delivered a toast that quickly became the evening’s most discussed moment. Multiple reports described the gathering as a smaller rehearsal dinner for about 100 close friends and family ahead of the larger wedding celebration at the Garden on Friday, July 3.

Their friendship stretches back well over a decade. Dunham has previously spoken warmly about Swift, and the singer was one of the bridesmaids at Dunham’s 2021 wedding to musician Luis Felber.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Dunham told attendees, “American football is just straight guys reenacting gay porn.”

The remark, directed at Kelce, is said to have produced an uneven reaction in the room. One source described the atmosphere as “divided”, saying it included both “gasps and laughs.”

That audience reportedly featured a number of football figures, including Jason Kelce, Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, 49ers tight end George Kittle, Seahawks wide receiver Cooper Kupp and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.

Even if the room wasn’t unanimous, Swift apparently had no doubts about the line.

According to the Daily Mail, the bride said the joke was “genius” once Dunham had finished speaking.

Swift has supported Dunham before on major occasions. Back in September 2021, she was a bridesmaid at Dunham’s wedding to musician Luis Felber, where she also delivered what was then described as “a really sweet speech celebrating them as a couple.”

One notable absence from the reportedly star-packed weekend was Swift’s former close friend Blake Lively. The actress did not attend amid the pair’s widely reported rift connected to Lively’s ongoing public legal dispute with her It Ends With Us director Justin Baldoni.

Also attending both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding itself was Jack Antonoff, Swift’s longtime collaborator and Dunham’s former partner. Antonoff dated Dunham from 2012 until 2017. Now married to Margaret Qualley, he reportedly brought his sister Rachel to Thursday’s dinner as his guest rather than his wife.
