Charles Barkley has opened up about the personal rule he lives by, explaining why he turned down an invitation to Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s much-talked-about wedding.
The reported Madison Square Garden celebration on July 3 has remained a huge talking point ever since it took place, with the couple keeping the guest list and details tightly under wraps.
Branded by some as the ‘royal wedding’, the event was said to have drawn a huge crowd of celebrities, family members and friends, with security and privacy measures reportedly kept strict throughout the night.
To help keep everything confidential, attendees were said to have signed non-disclosure agreements before the ceremony.
Now that the wedding is over, small bits of information have started to emerge, including Barkley’s reason for declining the invite.
By his own estimation, he expected it to be a ‘crap show’.

“I don’t go to weddings and funerals,” the former NBA star and Space Jam actor said during his Tuesday (July 7) appearance on the Unfiltered With Ricky Bo & Bill Colarulo podcast.
“I did get an invite, and I politely declined. Because I thought it was gonna be a crap show,” he admitted.
He also made clear that there was no bad feeling toward the couple, saying the scale of the event simply was not his kind of occasion.
Barkley told Bo and Colarulo: “I love Travis and Jason [Kelce]. I’ve only met Taylor one time. But yeah, I did get an invite but I said, ‘Hey, that’s just too much.’”
“I don’t wanna dress up and all that other stuff,” he explained. “But I appreciate the invitation; it was pretty special.”
Barkley also said the wedding simply was not the kind of event he enjoys attending, preferring golf and low-key plans over formal celebrations.
Other celebrity guests who did attend have since shared a few thoughts on the wedding.
For instance, Modern Family actor Eric Stonestreet wrote on Instagram: “I guess I can say now. We were at a wedding in New York City last night. Two truly special people found each other and what a joy to be able to celebrate them. And also, [my wife] Lindsay is so hot.”
Suki Waterhouse, who had previously confirmed to Variety that she would be at the wedding, later shared a Story featuring the Francis Bacon quote: “I often work best with a hangover because my mind is crackling with energy and I can think very clearly.”
Jessica Alba also posted about the evening on Instagram, writing: “We love love. Congrats to T&T – such a beautiful night celebrating you.”
