If Obsession has been on your watchlist but you’ve been too nervous to press play, there’s now an easy way to catch up, with the breakout supernatural horror arriving across several streaming platforms.
Created by Curry Barker, who wrote, directed and edited the film, Obsession has quickly become one of the most talked-about independent horror releases in recent memory.
The story follows Bear, a man in his twenties who works in a music store and comes across a supernatural toy. He uses it to make a wish that his friend Nikki will fall in love with him, setting off a chain of events that turns deeply unsettling.
Plenty of films have already warned us that magical wish-making rarely ends well, and Obsession leans fully into that idea. Rather than offering a neat moral wrapped in fantasy, it delivers something much darker, with consequences that are likely to stay with viewers long after the credits roll.
The cast includes Inde Navarrette (13 Reasons Why), Michael Johnston (Teen Wolf), Megan Lawless and Curry Barker.
For anyone who still hasn’t seen it, the good news is that you won’t need to hunt too far to find it. Obsession is now rolling out across three different streaming services.

You can watch Obsession on Prime Video, Apple TV or, from Friday (July 17), Peacock.
The film first landed on Prime Video and Apple TV on June 30, giving horror fans the chance to rent or purchase it from home.
It is currently being offered as a premium video-on-demand title, with rental priced at $19.99 and purchase at $24.99.
That price may not put off fans, though, given the film’s remarkable success. Obsession became Focus Features’ biggest movie of all time, earning more than $400 million globally after its U.S. release on May 15, 2026.
At the time of writing, the movie has climbed to an extraordinary $427,359,800 worldwide from a budget of just $750,000, according to Box Office Mojo.
Its reception has remained just as strong with viewers and critics too, holding a 94 percent tomatometer and popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
And for those who have already made it through Obsession, there are plenty of other major releases from this year worth adding to the list.

If you’ve already braved Barker’s film and are looking for something in a similar lane, Backrooms offers another eerie experience. Directed by Kane Parsons, the sci-fi psychological horror brings the internet’s liminal nightmare to the big screen and has drawn strong reactions for its unsettling atmosphere and inventive production design.
Elsewhere, Project Hail Mary has also become one of the year’s most discussed titles, with Ryan Gosling leading the cast in a big-screen sci-fi adaptation that has been fueling plenty of conversation well beyond the usual movie crowd.
Michael has drawn attention for casting Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s real-life nephew, as adult Michael, while also putting a fresh spotlight on one of pop culture’s most closely watched family stories.
And there’s still major anticipation building for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which opens in theaters on July 17 and has already become one of the most talked-about event releases of the summer.
Between horror, sci-fi, biopic drama and blockbuster spectacle, this has been a year packed with films people can’t stop talking about.
