Pennsylvania man faces 5538 charges after teen says he raped her almost daily

Nicholas Allen Spencer, 37, was charged Tuesday, Aug. 4, with 5,538 charges, 4000 of which are felonies.

A Pennsylvania man in Clearfield is facing thousands of charges after a teenager told detectives he raped her ‘almost daily’ for several years.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim went to police after a friend convinced them and explained she had been receiving sexually explicit messages from Spencer since she was about 12 years old.

She told troopers that the messages included things such as “wanting her” and wanting to “grab her, or something.” The victim showed troopers recent messages, but said she usually deletes them and didn’t have previous ones.

Spencer’s response to police about the messages was striking.

Troopers state they spoke with Spencer about the allegations; however, Spencer claimed he didn’t recall the messages despite them happening less than 8 hours prior, charging documents show.

The victim later detailed the full scope of the abuse in a formal legal setting.

When asked about when the assaults began, the victim disclosed her age limitations.

She added she couldn’t recall how old she was when the alleged sexual assaults began, but that she was at least 13.

In the viral moment that kicked off the investigation, the victim reported to authorities in May that Spencer had been sending her sexually explicit messages for years. She was about 12 years old when the grooming began. The messages escalated into a pattern of alleged daily assaults over several years, according to the charging documents. Police were then notified, and after interviewing the accused in July, investigators conducted the July 28 forensic interview where the victim detailed the full extent of the alleged abuse. Other juvenile witnesses confirmed key elements of the victim’s account, strengthening prosecutors’ case significantly.

The charges represent one of the largest single-defendant indictments in Clearfield County history.
