Courtney Clenney, the woman accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend in 2022, has reached a plea agreement that was set to be presented to a judge on Monday, August 10.
Clenney, 30, faces a second-degree murder charge in connection with the April 3, 2022 death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, 27. It has been confirmed that an agreement has been reached with prosecutors and the victim’s family.
Her attorneys said, “Counsel can confirm that a plea agreement has been reached in State of Florida v. Courtney Clenney, the second-degree murder case pending in Miami-Dade County.”
They added, “The terms of the agreement are not final until accepted by the Court.”
An attorney representing the Obumseli family stated, “On behalf of the Obumseli family, I am pleased to announce that Defendant Courtney Clenney, the State, and the Obumseli family have reached a resolution that would avoid an unnecessary trial.” The attorney added that pleading guilty and accepting full responsibility would help bring closure to the tragic event for the family.
Clenney has said she acted in self-defense. According to her account, she threw a knife at Obumseli during an alleged attack, and she claims it hit him in the chest.
She was arrested in Hawaii on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, on a charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.
At the time, police said: “Members of the Hawai’i Police Department assisted and stood by while Clenney was taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service.
“She was arrested on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Miami-Dade County, Florida, for the offense of murder in the second-degree with a deadly weapon.
“Clenney is being held at the Hawai’i Police Department’s East Hawai’i Detention Center pending her initial court appearance in Hilo District Court, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 11, 2022.
“She will eventually be extradited to Florida.”
She has remained behind bars without bond.
Clenney and Obumseli lived together in the Miami apartment at the One Paraiso condominium in the Edgewater neighborhood where he was fatally stabbed on April 3, 2022. Clenney, known online as Courtney Tailor, was an OnlyFans model at the time of her arrest.
Videos of the couple taken before Obumseli’s death depicted a tumultuous relationship marked by violence. The case drew national attention as prosecutors argued the evidence contradicted her self-defense account, while her attorneys maintained the stabbing happened during an act of self-defense and that she was a victim of domestic abuse.
Prior to the plea agreement announcement, Clenney settled a civil wrongful death lawsuit filed by Obumseli’s family against her and several companies connected to the couple’s apartment building. The settlement was formally closed in March 2026.
