Chrissy Metz Reveals Why She Finally Changed Her Mind About GLP-1s After 6 Years of Doubt

Chrissy Metz says deciding to use GLP-1 medication was about doing what felt right for her health.

After revealing last year that she had lost weight through strength and weight training, the This Is Us star is now sharing more about why she ultimately chose to try GLP-1s herself.

When she was previously asked about weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic, Metz made it clear that she sees the choice as a personal one.

“I think if you’re not hurting anybody, and you’re not hurting yourself, you should do what you feel is right for your body or your mind or whatever.”

In a new interview with E! News, the 45-year-old said she had been skeptical for six years and was very diligent about understanding how things work in the body before making any decision.

Explaining what led her there, Metz told the outlet, “I had a friend who was very thorough in his explanation, and he basically did a thesis on GLP-1s, alongside some information about the health history and of my family and my father.”

That was when she started to feel it was ‘something she should look into’.

Metz also said she had been on diets since childhood, and that history shaped the way she thought about weight loss.

“I know I could lose weight, but I didn’t know that I could quiet food noise, and I didn’t know there were other factors,” she added.

She said the decision was not about ‘vanity purposes,’ and it was not driven by pressure from others. Instead, she found herself asking, “How can I be the healthiest for the longest, and how can I really make it a priority for my future?”

Metz is currently making her Broadway debut in & Juliet, performing as Angélique from June 18 through September 13, 2026, at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. In early interviews about the role, she said six months ago she was not sure she would be able to manage an eight-show week. She said the medication has helped with inflammation and her ‘overall health’.

She added that the ‘quietened food noise,’ which she did not even realize was a thing at first, has now left her with more mental space to focus on the show.

In her partnership with Ro, a telehealth company that provides online evaluations and home delivery of medications, Metz said she is approaching her health more intentionally. “For me, it wasn’t just about weight… it was about feeling better, having more energy, and actually trusting the process instead of rushing it,” she said on Instagram when resuming her GLP-1 use in March 2026.

In a separate interview with Today, Metz said anyone thinking about taking the medication should research it carefully first and speak with a doctor or another medical professional before making a final decision.

“Nothing is for everybody, and I think it’s important to be skeptical about anything we consume, put in our bodies, watch, listen to,” she said.

Metz is far from the only well-known figure to discuss using GLP-1 medication for weight loss. Sharon Osbourne and Kris Jenner have both spoken publicly about taking it, though each later said they stopped.

Jenner said she quit after experiencing ‘severe nausea,’ while Osbourne said she ‘lost too much weight’.

Common side effects of GLP-1 medications can include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, although reactions vary from person to person. Most side effects are stomach-related and are more likely to occur at the start of treatment or after a dose increase.
