Tyler Boebert, the 21-year-old eldest son of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, was arrested Sunday in Garfield County, Colorado on felony charges related to the sexual exploitation of a child. The arrest follows an investigation by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and a felony review process by the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Tyler Boebert faces five felony counts in total: three charges of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The three sexual exploitation charges include allegations of inducing or enticing sexual activity with a minor, possession with intent to distribute sexually exploitative material, and charges involving videotaped material. He was released from custody after posting a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Garfield County District Court on August 19.
According to court records and a 49-page arrest affidavit, the charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred in early 2024, when Tyler Boebert was 18 years old. The investigation began after a Safe2Tell report about sexually explicit videos posted to an Instagram account involving minors. One of the videos allegedly depicted Tyler Boebert and a 17-year-old girl, filmed on January 21, 2024.
According to the affidavit, the girl told investigators that Tyler Boebert recorded the video with her and sent it to her phone. However, Boebert told police he was the man in the video but denied recording it, claiming it was made without his knowledge. The girl’s mother later alerted authorities that a video showing her daughter and Tyler Boebert having sex was posted on Instagram, though the affidavit does not specify who posted the video.
Investigators also identified an Instagram group chat with roughly 124 users that appeared to help spread accounts containing sexually explicit material involving multiple people. Court documents indicate that six other people are facing charges in connection with the incident. Investigators suspect Tyler Boebert of both filming the video and sharing it with others, and of creating the Instagram account that featured other explicit videos.
In a statement, Rep. Lauren Boebert said “I love my son. We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.” The congresswoman is currently running for reelection in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District.
This is not the first time Tyler Boebert has faced serious legal trouble. In February 2024, he was arrested on 22 charges related to a string of vehicle break-ins and property thefts in the Rifle area. Those charges included four felony counts of criminal possession of identification documents and one felony count of conspiracy to commit a felony, along with multiple misdemeanors. He allegedly stole credit cards from vehicles and used them to make purchases at gas stations and online retailers. Tyler ultimately pleaded guilty to attempted identity theft and received a two-year deferred judgment, which requires him to complete 80 hours of community service and abstain from controlled substances. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 10, 2026.
In September 2022, Tyler Boebert received a “careless driving causing bodily injury” ticket after he flipped his father’s SUV into a Garfield County creek bed in a late-night car crash.
Tyler Boebert has also faced charges related to child supervision. He was charged with misdemeanor child abuse in July 2025 after his 2-year-old son wandered away from his mother’s home in Windsor while he was allegedly watching the child. In February 2026, he faced similar charges after his toddler left the home a second time. On that second occasion, Rep. Boebert told 9News she was “very frustrated” and that there was “no excuse” for what happened. “A kind woman quickly and safely secured him, and authorities were called as a precaution,” she said. Tyler Boebert entered a guilty plea to the July 2025 charge and has a sentencing hearing scheduled for September 4, 2026.
Tyler Boebert became a father in June 2023, making his mother a grandmother at age 36. The charges he now faces carry significant potential penalties. The sexual exploitation of a child charge, classified as a Class 3 felony, carries a sentencing range of four to twelve years in prison, fines of up to $750,000, and mandatory sex offender registration. The contributing to the delinquency of a minor charge, a Class 4 felony, carries a sentencing range of two to six years in prison and fines of up to $500,000.
The arrest adds to a pattern of legal troubles in the Boebert family. Rep. Boebert’s ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, the father of Tyler and his three other sons, was arrested in January 2024 in connection with incidents at a restaurant in Silt involving alleged assault, disorderly conduct and harassment charges.
