Alyson Stoner has confirmed they will not return for the newly announced Camp Rock 3.
The 32-year-old actor and dancer, who played Caitlyn Geller in the first two Disney Channel films, said they have not been approached about the third installment. “I haven’t heard anything beyond that, but that sounds exciting,” Stoner said. “I’m guessing it’ll be maybe similar to what they did with High School Musical, where maybe they introduce a new generation. That’s what I’m assuming. But cool. Sounds great.”
Stoner has not appeared in an on-screen acting role since the 2018 film Mr. Invincible, though they continue to provide voice work for series including The Loud House and Phineas and Ferb. Their departure from traditional acting follows a dramatic career pivot toward mental health advocacy, entrepreneurship, and authorship.
The former Disney star founded Movement Genius, a wellness company offering what their website describes as “the all-in-one platform to improve your mental, physical, and emotional health.” They also host the award-winning Dear Hollywood podcast, which examines the psychological toll of child stardom and advocates for industry reform.
In August 2025, Stoner released Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything: A Memoir, which became an instant New York Times and USA Today bestseller. The book documents their experiences with family violence, eating disorders, religious trauma, and sexual assault. In one passage reported, Stoner wrote about being raped after a wellness event by a man who was allegedly “well-adored in the community”: “The world blurred as my mind completely disconnected from my body. The last image I saw was a poster on the wall of a ravenous feline leaping for its prey. Then I blacked out and he raped me.”
Stoner came out as queer in 2018 and has spoken openly about how using they/them pronouns affected their career trajectory. In a 2018 Teen Vogue interview, they stated: “I, Alyson, am attracted to men, women, and people who identify in other ways. I can love people of every gender identity and expression. It is the soul that captivates me. It is the love we can build and the goodness we can contribute to the world by supporting each other’s best journeys.”
The actor has also become a sought-after public speaker, delivering keynotes at the United Nations, World Health Organization, and Fortune 500 companies. In March and April 2026, they appeared as a keynote speaker at the IAPP Global Summit in Washington, D.C., alongside author Salman Rushdie and cognitive scientist Maya Shankar.
On The Dude Therapist Podcast in February 2026, Stoner shared their philosophy on authenticity versus approval, stating: “I’d rather be rejected while I’m accepting myself than be accepted while I’m rejecting myself.” They also discussed working 80-hour weeks as a child actor and the psychological cost of constant performance.
In the viral moment that launched their Disney career, Stoner first gained national attention at age 9 as a dancer in Missy Elliott’s music videos, later appearing in Cheaper by the Dozen, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Step Up, and Camp Rock. The 2008 original film and its 2010 sequel Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam became defining cultural touchstones for a generation of young viewers, with Stoner portraying the aspiring musician Caitlyn Geller opposite Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers.
While Stoner will not participate, Camp Rock 3 will see Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas reprise their roles as the fictional band Connect 3. The official synopsis states the film “picks up when Connect 3 lose their opening act for a major reunion tour, returning to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing.” Lovato, initially announced only as an executive producer, also makes a cameo appearance as Mitchie Torres during the final 20 minutes.
Stoner appeared as themself in Lovato’s 2024 documentary film Child Star, which examined the pressures and pitfalls of growing up in the entertainment industry. The documentary and Stoner’s subsequent memoir have contributed to a broader cultural reckoning with child labor protections and mental health coordination on film and television sets.
The former actor holds certifications in the mind-body space and serves on the SAG-AFTRA board, where they advocate for performer wellbeing. Their company Artist Wellbeing Essentials provides what their speaker profile calls “concrete solutions that support artists and entertainers who face unique psychological, physical, professional, financial, and social challenges.”
Stoner is scheduled to appear at a book signing event at Book Passage in San Francisco.
