Shocking moment passenger grins after drunk SoCal driver crashes Camaro into wall

Brittany Thorson flashed an unhinged grin as deputies with guns drawn surrounded the Camaro she was riding in after it smashed into a California home.

The wild scene unfolded around 7:22 p.m. On Aug. 12 in the 11700 block of Hesperia Road in Hesperia, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. The male driver, identified as Victorville resident Christopher Harman, 38, tore through a fence and crashed straight into the house, with the Camaro ending up inside a bedroom and sparking a small fire.

Occupants inside the home escaped without injury, but the chaos continued after officers arrived — with authorities stating the driver repeatedly accelerated into the home. Harman and his 39-year-old female passenger, Hesperia resident Thorson, were ordered to exit the vehicle, but both refused.

The female passenger could be seen laughing and flashing a wide smile as deputies attempted to coax the pair from the wrecked Camaro. Harman, meanwhile, appeared out of it as he remained behind the wheel.

Witnesses told VVNG that deputies issued multiple commands over a loudspeaker during a standoff that one neighbor estimated lasted about 30 minutes. Eventually, deputies moved in and struggled to pull the pair from the car, with witnesses recalling that less-lethal rounds were fired during the tense standoff.

But Harman allegedly made a grab for one deputy’s weapon as they tried to drag him out.

“While deputies were pulling Harman from the vehicle, Harman grabbed one of the deputies’ firearms,” the sheriff’s department said.

Deputies managed to subdue Harman and pull out his passenger, who was then taken to a hospital for her injuries. Once the pair had been removed, witnesses told the outlet deputies and civilians used fire extinguishers to fight the flames and prevent further damage to the home.

Harman was booked into the High Desert Detention Center on numerous charges. Booking records identified the female passenger as Thorson.

In the viral moment that has since circulated across social media, Thorson’s bizarre reaction — grinning and laughing amid the destruction and armed standoff — has drawn widespread attention and disbelief from viewers. The contrast between her cheerful demeanor and the serious situation, with deputies’ guns drawn and a home partially destroyed, fueled the clip’s rapid spread online.

Harman faces charges related to the DUI crash, the attempt to grab a deputy’s firearm, and resisting arrest. Thorson’s status following her hospitalization was not immediately clear from available records.

Harman remains in custody at the High Desert Detention Center pending further proceedings.
