Tristan Tate has complained about jail snacks in a handwritten note shared by the brothers’ lawyer on X.
The younger Tate brother, 38, scrawled the message from inside the Miami Federal Detention Center on Aug. 19 as he and older brother Andrew, 39, fight extradition to the UK on dozens of charges. Their lawyer, Joe McBride, posted the note to his X account this week.
“We have had 14 snack items in the past 32 days between two big men. What is this, trick or treat? I’ve lost 13 pounds and I’m hungry,” Tristan wrote in the hand-scrawled missive.
McBride amplified the complaint in his social media post. “LOOK at this NOTE from TRISTAN,” he wrote on X, quoting from the note: “I am hungry,” followed by a broken heart emoji.
The lawyer claimed both brothers have lost significant weight in custody. “Tristan is down 13 lbs, and Andrew 8. The Gov claims they have normal commissary access. The Gov is lying,” McBride wrote on X. He added: “They’ve been given commissary access one time in 32 days. Imagine a single snickers bar lasting 3 days between 2 men…”
The snack complaint marks another setback for the brothers, who built a massive online following through provocative social media content before their legal troubles mounted. Their attorneys made a striking admission about that empire in a 28-page legal filing supporting their motion for release this week.
“The more hyperbolic and outlandish the post, the more likely it will generate views and likes, which in turn generates income,” the attorneys wrote in the filing. “In short, they are playing a role.”
The filing acknowledged that their lavish displays of wealth — including multimillion-dollar sports cars and a $50 million yacht — were fabricated to deceive followers.
In the viral moment that launched their notoriety, the Tate brothers cultivated an image of extreme masculinity and wealth that attracted millions of followers to their “manosphere” content and pornography business. That empire has now collapsed as criminal charges accumulated across three countries.
Andrew faces dozens of charges in the UK, including multiple counts of rape, human trafficking and assault. Last month, Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service added 19 fresh charges of “indecent images of a child and extreme pornography,” according to reports. Tristan faces one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of sex trafficking.
The brothers had lived in Romania since 2016, where they also face a separate criminal investigation over allegations of human trafficking, rape, forming an organized criminal group, and money laundering. They were arrested in Miami on July 18 and remain at the Miami Federal Detention Center, where commissary Snickers bars cost $.95 apiece, according to the prison website.
The pair were due in US court Thursday to seek release on bail as they contest extradition to Britain.
