Hunter Biden has opened up about his sexuality in a podcast interview, joking that he is “48.5 percent gay.”
The former first son, 56, made the remarks on the Aug. 16 episode of the Luke Beasley Show podcast, a nearly 90-minute conversation that repeatedly returned to the topic. Biden, who is married to Melissa Cohen, fielded direct questions from host Luke Beasley about his sexual orientation and what he might look for in a partner if he were gay.
Beasley asked Biden point-blank, “Are you gay?” early in the interview.
“Only a little bit,” Biden replied.
When Beasley pressed him on whether he was “more or less than 50 percent” gay, Biden offered a precise figure: “48.6 percent.”
The conversation then turned to whether Beasley himself would be Biden’s type.
“A little bit more masculine would be my type, if I was gay,” Biden responded.
Later in the episode, Biden circled back to what he called “the gay question” and revised his self-assessment downward. “Maybe I take back 48.5” percent, he said. “More like 47 [percent] after that conversation. My gaydom went down a percentage point,” he quipped.
Toward the end of the interview, however, Biden reversed course once more. “I just wanted to let you know that I am back up to 48.5 percent gay,” he announced.
Biden married Cohen in 2019, just six days after the couple met. He was previously married to Kathleen Buhle, with whom he shares three daughters; that marriage ended in divorce in 2017.
The podcast appearance marks a rare public discussion by Biden of his sexuality, though he has faced intense media scrutiny over his personal life for years. His exchanges with Beasley were lighthearted in tone, with Biden treating the percentages as a running joke throughout the conversation.
Biden did not elaborate on whether the remarks reflected a broader statement about his identity or were intended purely as humor. The interview covered multiple topics across its runtime, but the sexuality exchange generated immediate attention from listeners and online commentators.
