Irvine police are asking the public to help identify a man who allegedly attacked a golfer with his own club at a local course last month.
The suspect remains at large more than two weeks after the Aug. 29 assault at San Joaquin Golf Course, where investigators say a routine afternoon round turned violent. The victim, whose name has not been released, encountered a man who had allegedly run across the course and confronted him about the intrusion.
The situation deteriorated rapidly. The golfer tried to escape by driving away in his golf cart, but the suspect pursued him on foot and managed to catch up, according to the Irvine Police Department.
“The golfer tried to get away in his golf cart, but the suspect caught up, took a golf club from the cart, and struck the golfer in the head,” investigators said in a statement. “The suspect then fled the area.”
The attacker had grabbed one of the victim’s clubs from the cart before delivering the blow, police said. He then ran from the scene and has not been located.
Authorities have released images of the man they believe was involved in the attack, hoping someone will recognize him. The photographs show a man investigators want to question about the incident.

The attack drew a police response to San Joaquin Golf Course, a public facility in the Southern California city. The course sits among the residential developments of Irvine, a planned community in Orange County known more for its low crime rate than for violent outbursts on its links.
Golf course confrontations have made headlines elsewhere in recent years, typically involving disputes over pace of play, course etiquette, or territorial conflicts between players and non-players. The allegation that an outsider ran onto the course before assaulting a golfer with his own equipment marks an unusual escalation even among those incidents.
Police have not disclosed the extent of the victim’s injuries, nor have they specified what charges the suspect might face if apprehended. The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify the man shown in the released images.
