Katy Perry has spoken publicly for the first time about both the end of her relationship with Orlando Bloom and the start of her romance with former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
The “Roar” singer, 40, gave the interview to People magazine in recent days, opening up about what she called “probably the hardest time” of her life when her nine-year partnership with Bloom, 48, collapsed just two months into her Lifetimes world tour. Representatives for the former couple confirmed the split in June 2025, stating both parties were shifting their relationship to co-parenting their daughter, Daisy Dove, now four.
Perry and Bloom, who met in 2016 and became engaged on Valentine’s Day 2019, never married. The breakup news landed while Perry was gigging across multiple continents, leaving her isolated from her support network back home.
“My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away,” she said. “But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”
Those angels, by Perry’s account, delivered Trudeau. The 23rd prime minister of Canada, who served from 2015 until 2025, began appearing at her tour dates within weeks of the split. His teenage daughter, Ella-Grace Margaret Trudeau, whom he co-parents with ex-wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, even joined him at one gig.
Perry traced the new relationship back to a deliberate act of manifestation. The singer had written down ten wishes for her life, and finding “true love” sat among them.
“I think that’s where we’re at,” she said of her connection with Trudeau.
The former politician’s presence at her shows has become a source of creative renewal, Perry explained. She credits the romance with pulling her tour out of its post-breakup slump.
“I learned how to step back into my purpose,” she said. “And I got the greatest gift from this tour: I got to meet the love of my life.”
Perry offered specific praise for how Trudeau engages with her work. “He knows the words, he’s supportive, and he’s in awe; it’s super healing,” she continued. “He is really heart-centered, and I think that we align in that way. I’m so grateful.”
Despite the painful timing, Perry maintains she harbors no bitterness toward Bloom. The pair’s on-and-off dynamic stretched across nearly a decade, producing both an engagement and their daughter before the final separation.
“I wouldn’t have stayed in something for nine years if there wasn’t really important things to learn. Each relationship is a teacher, right?” she said. “I had to let it go so I could move forward. I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece — then it showed up.”
The Lifetimes tour continues its global run with upcoming dates across Asia and the Middle East.
