Amanda Hirsch has apologized for promoting a betting platform off the back of the Lindsay Clancy trial.
Hirsch, 37, the host of the “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast, posted a mea culpa to Instagram on Sunday after fans called out her sponsored content for Polymarket. The ad went up following the mistrial declaration in Clancy’s case last Friday.
“Posting about the Lindsay Clancy trial in the same breath as a brand partnership was completely insensitive, wrong, and out of character for me — I should have known better, and I feel sick that I didn’t see that in the moment,” she wrote on Instagram.
Hirsch, a mother of two sons, said the case had deeply affected her. “I’ve been following it so closely, talking about it constantly, and feeling heartbroken over every part of it,” she wrote. “I became so consumed by the trial that I completely lost perspective and didn’t stop to think about how grossly inappropriate it was to discuss something this tragic in that context.”
She continued, “I made a terrible judgment call and I feel so f—ing awful about that. I know deleting it doesn’t erase it.”
The original post, which Hirsch has since deleted, highlighted Polymarket’s prediction that Clancy would be found not guilty. “On Polymarket it was predicted the verdict would be Not Guilty. Are you surprised? #Polymarketpartner,” she had written.
Hirsch turned off comments on her apology post.
Clancy stands accused of strangling her three young children before attempting to take her own life by jumping from a window, an act that left her paralyzed. Her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, argued at trial that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and had hallucinated a voice instructing her to kill her children and herself. The case ended in a mistrial Friday.
The backlash had already begun before Hirsch’s apology. Fans who had watched her TikTok video from last month — where she discussed how the Clancy trial affected her as a mom and argued mothers need more support — flooded her with sarcastic responses to the betting ad. “But in the meantime bet big kids!” one user commented. Another asked simply, “Is this a poly market ad.”
Hirsch sought to distance her actions from her character in her Sunday post. “Believe me, I’m horrified by the choice I made, and please know this lapse in judgment does not represent who I am as a person. I am so deeply sorry,” she concluded.
The Clancy trial has drawn intense public attention, with some supporters arguing she should not be held criminally responsible due to her mental health condition.
Clancy’s retrial date has not been set.
