Ray LaMontagne’s team has spoken out after the Grammy-winning folk singer collapsed mid-song during his Nashville concert.
LaMontagne, 53, was strumming through his 2004 track “Jolene” at the historic Ryman Auditorium last Saturday when he let out a grunt and fell backward to the floor. Audience members gasped as two crew members rushed to his side.
The singer’s team posted an update later that night on his Instagram Stories to address the incident and reassure fans. “Thank you to everyone who came out to tonight’s show at the Ryman,” the message began.
“Ray is in good hands with the local EMS and is being treated for heat related dehydration, he is doing well now and is grateful for everyone’s understanding.”
The statement added that LaMontagne “is looking forward to being onstage in Louisville tomorrow night.”
True to that word, the “Trouble” singer took the stage at the Louisville Palace in Kentucky on Sunday as planned. He did not mention the Nashville collapse during that performance.
The Ryman incident came roughly two weeks into LaMontagne’s Trouble 20th Anniversary Tour, which opened Aug. 23 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The trek marks the first time he has played his breakthrough debut album in full since its original release.
LaMontagne announced the tour in March 2025 with an Instagram post telling followers he’d be “playing the album top to tail for the first time since it was released.”
“I hope you will come out and join me and my friends and help us celebrate this moment in time,” he wrote. “It wouldn’t be the same without you.”
The Maine-born singer broke through in 2004 with “Trouble,” which climbed to No. 5 on the U.K. Charts nearly two years after coming out. His catalog now spans nine studio albums, most recently “Long Way Home,” released in August 2024.
His 2010 album “God Willin’ & The Creek Don’t Rise” earned him the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2011.
The Trouble tour still has stops scheduled in Philadelphia, Detroit, Boston, Portland and other cities before concluding with three nights at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.
