Spice Girls fans revolted Thursday after a hyped “major announcement” turned out to be a new merchandise drop.
The group, whose members are Victoria Beckham, 50, Geri Halliwell, 52, Melanie “Mel B” Brown, 49, Emma Bunton, 49, and Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm, 51, had posted on Instagram Wednesday that something was coming “10.09.2026 | 2pm BST.” The countdown ended with the reveal of “The Singles Collection,” a 14-disc vinyl and CD box set arriving November 6.
The Instagram post Thursday gushed: “For the first time ever, they’re all together in THE SINGLES COLLECTION 💖.” It promised “✨ 14-disc colour vinyl + CD box sets ✨ Original artwork + B-sides ✨ Previously unreleased demos.”
Fans expecting a reunion tour or Las Vegas residency lashed out in the comments. One wrote, “At this point, the teasing feels abusive. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!?? Bringing this up in therapy.”
Another fan tagged the group directly: “@spicegirls this announcement went viral – this cannot just be for a CD box set & unreleased music?! 😅.”
The disappointment rippled through jokes about dashed financial plans. “*puts credit card back in purse*,” one comment read. Another fan noted, “Negotiating with my husband on my price cap for Spice Girls tickets today was for NOTHING.”
One disgruntled follower wrote, “This was it? I literally was looking up part time jobs to buy tickets for tour 😆🥺.”
The letdown hit harder given recent reunion hopes. Reports said in March that the Spice Girls had canceled planned 30th anniversary performances for “Wannabe” after failing to reach an agreement. That same month, Chisholm confirmed no reunion was imminent but refused to close the door entirely.
“We are communicating all the time, we want to do something,” she insisted during her appearance on “The Smallzy Show.” “Who knows when? But I still feel very optimistic, and I keep my fingers crossed that you will see the Spice Girls together at some point in the future.”
Brown also addressed the possibility in a March interview, saying she was eager to return to the road.
“I’m always the one going, ‘Yes, we’re going on tour,'” she said. “I would love to go on tour. I would love to do music, but it isn’t happening.”
“I’m always ready to go on tour with the Spice Girls,” Brown continued. “I wouldn’t be sitting here if it weren’t for my other four girls, if I weren’t a part of that kind of girl power crazy roller coaster ride.”
Wednesday’s teaser had fueled speculation that the five members would finally regroup for live performances. Fans referenced the group’s iconic lyrics to demand what they really wanted. “I’ll tell you what I want! What I really really want…..A TOUR WITH ALL 5!!!” one comment read. Another chimed in, “What I really really want is a world tour zigazigah.”
The box set marks the first time the group’s singles have been collected together, but for many followers, that milestone paled against the prospect of seeing all five members share a stage again.
One fan distilled the collective frustration into a single quip: “This meeting could have been an email.”
The Singles Collection is scheduled for release on November 6.
