Britney Spears Asks Why ‘God Took My Father’s Legs Away’ in Emotional Conservatorship Post

Britney Spears, 43, has publicly tied her father’s leg amputation to her 13-year conservatorship in a raw social media post.

The “Toxic” singer shared the message on Instagram last week while celebrating her sons’ birthdays. Jayden James Federline turned 20 on September 12, and Sean Preston Federline marked his 21st on September 14. The post has since been deleted.

“He’s pushing Jayden when I started to use my own feet, not guided by anyone,” Spears wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture with her sons. “For some reason, as a baby he always did that, I thought it was cute.”

The post then pivoted to an apparent message aimed at her estranged father, Jamie Spears, 74. “GUIDE ME AND LEAD ME WITH YOUR FEET FOR YOUR NAMESAKE,” she wrote in all caps.

Spears continued: “For 15 years I was never allowed to say my name in the land of the free and travel spontaneously. Not one time… Every place I traveled was for work for my dad and mother.”

The Grammy winner described how unrestricted travel had transformed her spirit after the conservatorship ended. “I could feel my inner child 100 percent awaken and never felt so alive,” she wrote. “My damn life… it’s crazy these are just words, but if people honestly knew the difference in my spiritual connection when I flew out of the country, they would nod and understand.”

She added: “But you all know me; I’ve forgiven and been the bigger person always, RIGHT.”

Then came the line that drew headlines: “I wonder why God took my father’s legs away? Did he take my name away and existence in MURICA HOME OF THE FREE!!”

Jamie Spears had one of his legs amputated in November 2023, reports said that December. He had been hospitalized for several weeks battling a bacterial infection in one leg. A source said at the time that “he had a knee replacement and got a terrible infection from it.” Multiple unsuccessful surgeries preceded the amputation, which sources described as a last resort.

Earlier this year, Jamie was photographed in a wheelchair at his granddaughter Maddie’s graduation in Hammond, Louisiana. Maddie is the eldest daughter of Jamie Lynn Spears and her ex-fiancé Casey Aldridge. Sean Preston attended the ceremony and was pictured holding a sign that read “Look who’s graduated” alongside a throwback photo of Maddie. Britney Spears was not present.

The conservatorship that controlled Britney’s finances, career, and personal decisions from 2008 until its termination in November 2021 was overseen largely by Jamie Spears as conservator of her estate. The arrangement became the subject of global scrutiny through the #FreeBritney movement and was formally dissolved by a Los Angeles judge after the singer testified about alleged abuses.
