A Florida mother charged with incest allegedly told investigators she had sex with her son “only about 100 times” and added, “I didn’t stutter.”
Christina Clemens, 46, and her son Shane Clemens, 22, both of Lakeland, were arrested after the younger man revealed the years-long sexual relationship to authorities, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. The disclosure came last month when Shane was already in custody on a domestic violence charge filed by his own mother.
The case began with a domestic dispute. Shane Clemens was outraged that Christina had called police and accused him of assaulting her, Judd explained in a video address Wednesday. The son decided to retaliate with a shocking confession.
“So he got mad because she called and we arrested him for hitting mama. And then he said, ‘Well, I’ll tell you what — I’ve been having sex with my mama since I was 18 years old,'” Judd recounted.
Investigators then confronted Christina Clemens directly. When asked whether she had been sexually involved with her son since he turned 18, she did not deny it. Instead, she offered a specific number and challenged any skepticism.
“So we asked mama, ‘Have you been having sex with your son since he was 18?’ She says, ‘Only about 100 times. I didn’t stutter’ — that’s what she told us,” Judd said.

The sheriff also disclosed that investigators interviewed Christina’s husband, who described the couple as “happily married” and confirmed they were living together at the time. When questioned about whether he knew of the relationship between his wife and stepson, the husband said he did not — though he admitted to some suspicion. He told investigators that Christina and Shane used to enter the master bedroom together and lock the door behind them.
The husband’s account suggests the alleged incest occurred within the family home while he remained unaware of its nature. Judd offered a blunt assessment of the case.
“What else can you say? That’s nasty,” the sheriff remarked.
Jail records show Christina Clemens faces one count of incest, one count of living in open adultery, and one count of domestic battery. She secured her release on Sept. 4 after posting a total bond of $6,250.
Shane Clemens was charged with one count of incest and one count of domestic violence battery. Unlike his mother, he remains in custody without bond.
The domestic battery charge against Christina stemmed from the initial incident in which she accused her son of assault, prompting the call to police that ultimately unraveled both their alleged crimes. The adultery charge reflects Florida’s rarely enforced statute criminalizing open cohabitation or sexual intercourse by a married person with someone other than their spouse.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has not announced any additional charges or arrests connected to the case. Both defendants are expected to appear in court in Bartow, the county seat.
