Colin Farrell has debuted a freshly shaved head during a Los Angeles outing.
The Irish actor, 50, was photographed on Wednesday sporting a completely smooth dome while grabbing lunch in the city. He paired an olive green T-shirt with casual black pants and sunglasses, showing off a fit physique. In additional shots, Farrell covered the new look with a blue ball cap and brown loafers, appearing relaxed while carrying his cell phone and navigating parking meters.
The dramatic hair change arrives as Farrell prepares to return to Gotham City. In June, he confirmed to Collider that he had begun filming “The Batman Part II,” reprising his role as Oz Cobb, the crime boss known as The Penguin.
“I’m so excited to see it as a fan,” Farrell told the outlet at the time, praising the sequel’s script as “extraordinary.”
“Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells,” he added, referring to director and co-writer Matt Reeves.
Farrell’s commitment to physical transformation for the character has become a signature of his performances. For 2022’s “The Batman,” he underwent extensive prosthetic work that left him scarred and partially bald, a process he repeated for the HBO spinoff series “The Penguin.” The 2024 series earned him widespread acclaim and a 2025 Golden Globe victory, though no second season has been announced.
This is not the first time Farrell has gone fully bald for the role. In 2021, ahead of the original film’s release, he was spotted in Los Angeles’s Los Feliz neighborhood with a similarly shaved head while preparing for his initial transformation into the disfigured villain.
At the 2024 red carpet premiere for “The Penguin,” Farrell opened up about the psychological impact of seeing himself so drastically altered.
“Do you ever see cats looking at themselves in the mirror? How they recoil and they just don’t know [it’s them]?” he told reporters at the event. “It was strange.”
Farrell clarified that he didn’t ever “fully” lose “sense of” himself, but noted that it “was a very powerful thing to know yourself a certain way for 45 years and to see a reflection.”
“And it also kind of made me aware of how much I identified with how I look,” he continued.
He reflected on realizing that “none of” him was there and how it created a “blank slate” to fully become the character.
“It was amazing,” he divulged. “It was really, really powerful. It was something very powerful and very kind of hypnotic to the experience.”
Whether Farrell’s current shaved head signals further prosthetic work for the film sequel or a simpler preparation routine remains unconfirmed. The actor has not addressed the new look directly on social media or in statements.
“The Batman Part II” is currently in production with Reeves returning to direct.
