Taryn Asher has reached an agreement with Fox 2 Detroit to void a non-compete clause that had blocked her from working at a competing local station.
The fired anchor, who spent 18 years at the station, was booted in June after an expletive-laden on-camera rant against a supervisor went viral in August. Her attorney, Tad Roumayah, told The Post in a statement on Thursday that the six-month non-compete restriction is now dead.
“With this non-compete issue now behind her, Ms. Asher is actively pursuing opportunities in the industry and she hopes to stay in Detroit, a community she has cherished and where she has developed meaningful connections with viewers over the years,” he said.
Asher’s other claims against the station remain pending in court. She filed a lawsuit alleging gender discrimination and retaliation, charging that Fox 2 Detroit treated her worse than male colleagues and terminated her contract after she complained.
The station has pushed back hard. In a legal filing, Fox 2 Detroit responded that multiple employees had complained about Asher’s behavior in the week before she was placed on paid leave in November 2025. The station accused her of shouting at employees over interview assignments, repeatedly using profanity, and having “confrontational and disrespectful interactions” with co-workers.
In one instance, the station alleged Asher shouted at two colleagues after she mistakenly believed an interview she booked had been handed to co-anchor Roop Raj — when the interview had actually been assigned to her the entire time.
Asher started at Fox 2 Detroit in 2007 and had worked in local news for 30 years, winning 10 local Emmys. She and Raj were made co-lead anchors in 2022.
The unearthed footage from August captured a tense exchange as Asher read a script on-camera while a supervisor could be heard off-camera saying they were still working on it.
“You’re walking out really angry,” Asher said after claiming she didn’t have time to wait, which apparently prompted her boss to storm off set.
“Bitch! Jeeze, oh Pete!” Asher added, shaking her head with her mouth open in shock. “Can I please finish what I’m gonna say? What the f–k! Grow up!”
As a producer appeared to fix her microphone pack, she added: “I’m so done with her antics, telling on me every five seconds. I’m done.”
Asher reportedly received a warning after the foul-mouthed fumble, then a notice of suspension and a termination letter for engaging in “unprofessional behavior,” including the use of profanity and “outbursts in the newsroom.” She has denied allegations of “outbursts” in the newsroom and claimed the station treated male colleagues accused of misconduct more leniently.
The cleared non-compete removes a significant barrier as Asher, 47, looks to land her next role in Detroit television.
