James Farthing, the Kentucky man who split a $167 million Powerball jackpot with his mother, has been arrested for the fifth time since his win.
Farthing, 28, was found asleep behind the wheel of a running white Ford Mustang in a Walmart parking lot in Georgetown, Kentucky, early Sunday morning, according to an arrest citation obtained by Lex18. Deputies had to knock repeatedly on the window to rouse him from what they described as a stupor.
The jackpot winner from rural Kentucky allegedly showed several signs of impairment, including smelling of alcohol and marijuana, bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and difficulty maintaining balance, the arresting officer reported.
Farthing reportedly told deputies that a woman drove him to the parking lot and left him there. Surveillance footage showed no one exited the Mustang after it pulled in.
He was booked into the Scott County Detention Center on alcohol intoxication charges.
This latest arrest adds to a growing rap sheet that began almost immediately after Farthing’s lottery windfall. In April 2025, just days after clinching the massive prize, he was arrested in Florida and charged with battery on a law enforcement officer for allegedly kicking a deputy in the head.
In February, he faced charges of intimidating a participant in the legal process, according to reports. Last November, he was charged in a hit-and-run after allegedly smashing his Corvette into the back of another car in Lexington and fleeing on foot.
Most recently, in late July, Farthing was hit with domestic violence charges for allegedly strangling a woman at his Scott County home following a boating trip.
Farthing claimed his share of Kentucky’s largest-ever Powerball prize after buying a $2 ticket from Clark’s Pump N Shop in Georgetown. He split the fortune with his mother, Linda Grizzle.
The caller who reported Farthing’s white Ford Mustang told dispatchers the vehicle had initially stopped in the middle of an intersection just before 3 a.m. Before driving into the Walmart lot to park.
Farthing is slated to be arraigned on public intoxication charges on Tuesday.
