Michelle Williams has gone back to college.
The Destiny’s Child alum, 47, revealed on Instagram Tuesday that she is now a sophomore at Regent University in Virginia, where she is studying psychology. Williams posted a selfie wearing a green school T-shirt and glasses, making the announcement public after keeping it private from even her closest circle.
“Chiiiiiiiiile, your girl is back in school!! 💚” she captioned the post.
Williams admitted she had nearly stayed silent entirely. She initially “talked [herself] out of posting” the news, she shared, hiding it from family and friends “because of the intrusive thought, ‘What if you don’t finish?’ 💙”
“I’m going to finish, and I’m going to finish strong. 💚”
The Grammy winner is in her second year of the psychology program, and she couldn’t resist a joke about her chosen field. “because y’all need help! LOLOL (just kidding … kinda).”
“My advisors and professors have been awesome!! 💙” she added in the post. “Pray for my endurance and focus! 💚”
The comments section filled rapidly with encouragement, prompting Williams to pin her own follow-up. “I see all the comments and I want to respond, but I gotta go read!!” she wrote. “I love you all!! PS: I’d love some study tips, for sure!!”
Among those cheering her on was Kelly Rowland, who posted, “My Love!!! You GOT THIS!!! It goes without saying, my heart is so full!! This is YOUR TIME! 🥹🥰♥️”
Williams comes to campus life directly off a major stage commitment. She starred as Viola Van Horn in the Broadway musical “Death Becomes Her,” which closed June 28. The production’s opening night last November drew both Rowland and Beyoncé, 45, to the audience, with Beyoncé later posting backstage photos including one of herself and Rowland embracing Williams.
That support has carried into 2025. The three singers reunited for their first performance together in seven years at the final stop of Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” tour in Las Vegas, Nevada, in July 2025. They ran through Destiny’s Child classics including 2001’s “Bootylicious” and 2005’s “Lose My Breath,” then Rowland and Williams joined Beyoncé for her 2022 track “Energy.”
Williams has not indicated whether she plans to continue performing while completing her degree.
