Johnny Depp, 63, was filmed eating decorative plants at a Las Vegas party for his rum brand.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star attended a Saturday night after-party at Park MGM for Three Hearts during the Drink Las Vegas event, where he posed for photographers in a dark outfit, brown wide-brimmed hat, tinted glasses, and a loose bandana around his neck. Weighty rings covered seemingly every finger as he held a beverage in one hand.
At one point, Depp walked over to a step-and-repeat wall covered in faux greenery and buried his face in the artificial plants. He emerged with one leaf, which he began munching on while photographers continued snapping photos.
The “Edward Scissorhands” actor spat out the leaf and returned to the wall for another mouthful. This time he raised his drink and smiled for more photos as two leaves protruded from his teeth.
In other footage from the event, Depp clinked glasses and happily chatted with bystanders. He also took a seat at a table and continued conversing with guests.
The leaf-munching moment arrives as Depp continues nurturing his career comeback following his highly publicized defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard.
In July, the actor made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con to promote his upcoming movie, “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.” He appeared nearly unrecognizable dressed as Charles Dickens’ iconic Christmas miser, wearing prosthetics, a bushy brow and gray facial hair. He posed at the event in what appeared to be a re-creation of the forthcoming film’s snowy set.
In August, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said at Disney’s D23 convention that Depp could reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for an upcoming “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel.
“We’re talking with Johnny, we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done,” Bruckheimer told the outlet.
Separate insiders divulged to the outlet that a sixth installment in the franchise would revolve around Margot Robbie’s protagonist, with Depp’s Captain Jack appearing as a supporting character.
Depp once admitted he doesn’t necessarily view things the way most people do.
“Most things that are considered normal and that are very well accepted in life, I’m fascinated by,” he told Charlie Rose back in 2013, with a laugh. “Because they just seem like odd things to me.”
Depp’s Las Vegas appearance also comes after he was seen using a cane at a Boston gig earlier this year following an ankle injury.
