Lois & Clark Star Dean Cain Now Has a Very Different Role Alongside His Acting Work

Dean Cain, 60, has revealed he is now working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The former ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ star made the announcement last year in a video posted to his Instagram account, adding a federal law-enforcement role to a resume that already includes nearly a decade as a sworn sheriff’s deputy and reserve police officer. Cain, who played Clark Kent throughout the hit 1990s series, has maintained a public profile through political appearances and real-estate investments since his superhero days ended.

His involvement with ICE follows a 2018 revelation that he had been sworn in as a law enforcement officer, a move that surprised fans who remembered him primarily as the Man of Steel. The actor has also remained active in conservative politics, having endorsed Donald Trump across multiple presidential campaigns. Trump, 78, singled Cain out during an August campaign rally at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas.

“And a handsome actor named Dean Cain, who has been with us since the beginning,” Trump shouted to the audience where Cain was present.

In his Instagram video, Cain addressed his decision to sign up with the federal immigration agency directly.

“For those who don’t know, I am a sworn law enforcement officer, as well as being a filmmaker, and I felt it was important to join with our first responders to help secure the safety of all Americans, not just talk about it. So I joined up,” he told his followers.

The actor then pivoted to recruitment, outlining benefits available to prospective ICE hires.

“Here’s your opportunity to join ICE. You can earn lots of great benefits and pay. Since President Trump took office, ICE has arrested hundreds of thousands of criminals, including terrorists, rapists, murderers, paedophiles, MS-13 gang members, drug traffickers, you name it – very dangerous people who are no longer on the streets,” he continued.

Cain emphasized financial incentives and educational perks in his pitch.

“You can defend your homeland and get great benefits like a $50,000 signing bonus, think about that, student loan repayment (legally), enhanced retirement benefits, and special pay for those in the field operations and law enforcement roles,” he added.

He noted that the agency does not require a college degree for applicants.

“You also don’t need an undergraduate degree; you can get to work right away. So if you want to help save America, ICE is arresting the worst of the worst and removing them from America’s streets. I like that. I voted for that,” Cain shared.

His recruitment message concluded with a direct appeal to his audience.

“They need your help, we need your help, to protect our homeland for families. Join today if it’s something that tickles your fancy because we can use you,” he said.

The announcement drew criticism from some quarters, with detractors questioning whether Cain possessed adequate training for federal agency work. He fired back at those claims, pointing to his extensive prior law-enforcement experience.

“I’m not untrained. I’ve been a sheriff’s deputy for almost 10 years. I’ve been a sworn sheriff’s deputy and a reserve police officer. So, I don’t know why you’re saying untrained,” he replied.

Beyond his law-enforcement and political activities, Cain has built a substantial property portfolio over the past two decades. He purchased an oceanfront Malibu home in 2004 for $2.6 million, later selling it in 2023 for $6.25 million, and subsequently relocated to a $4 million estate in Henderson, Nevada. He continues to work as a filmmaker alongside his other pursuits.

The actor first donned Superman’s cape in 1993 when ‘Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman’ premiered on ABC, starring opposite Teri Hatcher as Lois Lane. The series ran for four seasons and 87 episodes, reimagining the comic-book romance with a romantic-comedy sensibility that distinguished it from previous Superman adaptations. Cain’s portrayal emphasized Clark Kent as the primary identity rather than the superhero alter ego, a character choice that helped define the show’s appeal during its mid-1990s run.
