Barack and Michelle Obama publicly reaffirmed their marriage on their 34th anniversary amid persistent divorce speculation.
The former president, 65, posted a photo of the couple embracing on Instagram Saturday, gazing lovingly at his wife as she rested a hand on his arm. Michelle, 62, responded with her own tribute — a montage spanning their decades together set to Stevie Wonder’s 1976 hit “As.”

“Happy anniversary, @MichelleObama! I’m still the luckiest guy in the world to be with you,” Barack captioned his post.
Michelle’s compilation included throwback images from their 1992 wedding, moments from their White House years, and recent vacation snapshots. “Loving you just keeps getting better and better!” she wrote. “Happy anniversary, @BarackObama. Here’s to many, many more years of joy, laughter, and memories to come. 💕”

The dual posts marked the second consecutive year the couple used Instagram to celebrate their union publicly. Last October, Barack shared a smiling photo with the declaration, “The best decision I ever made was marrying you, @MichelleObama. For 33 years, I’ve admired your strength, grace, and determination — and the fact that you look so good doing it all. Happy anniversary!”

Michelle echoed the sentiment beneath the same image: “We’ve been on quite the journey over the last 33 years — and yet, I love you even more today than the day we said ‘I do.’ Happy anniversary, @BarackObama! I’m so lucky to go through life with you. ❤️”

The anniversary tributes arrived after months of scrutiny over their separate public appearances. Michelle’s absence from both former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s inauguration last year fueled divorce rumors, with the outlet reporting her inauguration skip was “deliberate” while she maintained an “extended holiday vacation” in Hawaii.
The couple directly confronted the speculation during a July 2025 episode of Michelle and her brother Craig Robinson’s podcast, “IMO.” Michelle teased a “very, very, very special guest” before Robinson, 64, jokingly interjected, “Wait, you guys like each other?” and sighed about the “rumor mill.”

Barack then quipped, “She took me back! It was touch and go for a while.”
Michelle quickly shut down the bit, telling him not to “start” before observing that it was simply “nice to [be] in the same room,” She added the pointed joke that when they aren’t together, “folks think we’re divorced.”

Beyond the humor, Michelle has offered substantive reflection on their marriage’s endurance. In a recent interview, she addressed navigating “ups and downs” together. “However hard it’s been, the ups and the downs, he’s got me,” she said. “He’s like, ‘Try new things. Go leap.’ I can do a lot of these things because I know if I slip or fall or trip, he’s got me.”

The couple wed on October 3, 1992, and share daughters Malia, 28, and Sasha, 25. Their anniversary posts this year carried added weight given the sustained public fascination with their relationship status.

Michelle has increasingly stepped into independent ventures, including her “IMO” podcast with Robinson and a newly announced podcast collaboration with her brother. The former first lady has maintained a selective public presence while pursuing these projects.

The Obamas’ coordinated anniversary messaging demonstrated their continued willingness to leverage social media to shape narrative around their marriage, directly countering speculation with affectionate public displays.
Barack and Michelle will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary next October.
