Red Baron Employee Speaks Out After Emotional Reaction to Viral Prank Breaks Hearts

Walt, the Red Baron Pizza worker caught in a viral TikTok prank, has broken his silence.

The frozen-food aisle employee, identified only as Walt, posted a public message on GoFundMe last week after a staged “theft” video racked up millions of views and sparked a fundraising surge past $513,000. The 45-year-old father of four had been stacking frozen pizzas when a content creator approached him asking for the time, then pretended to steal $10 via Apple Pay while filming the entire encounter.

Walt’s frustration quickly escalated in the clip. “It’s not a joke to me. My life is hard as it is,” he said during the confrontation. “I have four kids at home, I was supposed to be home an hour ago, and I’m still out here working!”

The prankster’s stunt backfired dramatically. Viewers flooded social media with support for Walt, and a stranger launched a GoFundMe campaign that has now raised more than $513,000 toward its $700,000 goal. The organizer confirmed they had never met Walt before starting the fundraiser.

“I wanted to take a moment to personally thank everyone who has donated, shared this fundraiser, or left a kind message,” Walt wrote in his GoFundMe comment. “The kindness and encouragement you’ve shown me and my family have meant more than I can put into words.”

He emphasized his family’s wellbeing and his cautious approach to sudden attention. “My family and I are doing well, and I’m grateful to have supportive people around me,” he continued. “I’ve been keeping things private to protect my family’s privacy, and I appreciate everyone respecting that.”

Walt also addressed the flood of media inquiries that followed the video’s spread. “I’ve also received a lot of interview requests,” he noted. “Being in the spotlight isn’t something I would normally seek out, but I’m considering sharing my story.”

He attached a firm condition to any future appearances. “I wanted to make sure it’s with people who will treat me and my family with care and respect our privacy,” Walt added.

The fundraiser’s creator framed the campaign as a stand against exploitative content. “This fundraiser is about standing up for a working person who is busting their butt and should not have to fear losing stability because someone wanted content and clicks,” they wrote. They also expressed hope to “help push back against rage-bait and show this worker that people care.”

Red Baron Pizza itself entered the conversation with a pointed social media post. The company shared a graphic on X reading “Employee of the Month nominations are closed. You know why,” with a caption stating: “He’s still here. He’s got a fan club. Including us.”

Walt closed his statement with a blanket expression of gratitude to supporters he couldn’t reach individually. “Please know that even if I haven’t responded to your message or comment, your support has made a difference,” he shared. “From me and my family, thank you.”

The original incident occurred while Walt was working his shift in the frozen pizza section, where the TikToker’s fake transaction prank targeted him specifically because he was on the clock and unable to simply walk away. The video captured Walt’s genuine distress at a moment when, by his own account, he was already running an hour past his scheduled departure time while his children waited at home.

The GoFundMe campaign continues accepting donations as Walt weighs whether to tell his full story publicly.
