Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals Heartwarming Way She Supports Rob and Michele Reiner’s Kids After Their Deaths

Jamie Lee Curtis has opened up about her deepening bond with Jake and Romy Reiner nearly a year after their parents were killed.

The “Freaky Friday” star, 67, told Extra that she and her husband Christopher Guest have drawn even closer to the siblings following the December 14 murders of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner in their Los Angeles home. “Of course, I mean, we are family,” Curtis said. “Something like this brings people so much closer.”

Curtis described a recent moment with Jake Reiner that underscored their connection. “Jake and I were sitting shoulder-to-shoulder doing an interview,” she added, “and just feeling him there is emotional, and then of course him talking about his parents and their fantastic relationship.”

The Reiner siblings were orphaned when both parents were found with fatal knife wounds. Their brother Nick Reiner was arrested that same evening and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, which he denies. Rob and Michele were cremated about a week later, though no public memorial has been held while the court case proceeds. “There hasn’t been a big public memorial yet,” Curtis noted, “and so we’re all grieving.”

The friendship between the two families stretches back four decades. Curtis and Guest were married at Rob Reiner’s home on December 18, 1984, with Reiner serving as best man. Curtis’s late sister Kelly Curtis was maid of honor. Rob Reiner also stood as godfather to the couple’s daughter Annie, and when Michele Singer married Rob, the couple became Annie’s godparents together.

Last month, Curtis reflected on these ties in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m obviously a close friend of theirs; we got married at Rob’s house on Dec. 18, 1984. Rob was the best man,” she said. “My late sister Kelly was my maid of honor. So we are close. Rob is our daughter Annie’s godfather. When Michele married Rob, she and Rob became my daughter’s godparents. We have a closeness, of course.”

Curtis carried that sense of responsibility to the 2026 Emmys in September, where she delivered the In Memoriam tribute to her friend. “He now holds the record of 48 years for the longest gap between acting Emmys, which was previously held by his father Carl Reiner at 37 years,” she shared during the broadcast. “He was generous and kind, and funny as hell, and a friend to all. And we all miss Rob and Michele.”

She later explained her approach to the moment. “What I’m trying to say is that I felt a responsibility to represent everyone—strangers, fans, colleagues, friends, close friends and family—in that moment at the Emmys,” Curtis told The Hollywood Reporter.
