Dog Adopts Fox Cub After His Mom Is Killed In A Road Accident

This 3-week-old fox cub was found by the side of the road next to his mother, who had been killed by a motorist.

Thankfully, he was rescued. And after a full check-up by a veterinarian, he was adopted by animal lovers Werner and Angelika Schmaing of Oberscheld, Germany.

They named him Dinozzo.

It’s a heart-warming story, but what makes it remarkable is how the couple’s Collie Ziva has taken it upon herself to become Dinozzo’s surrogate mother.

“Our collie acts as a foster mum for the little ones,” said the couple.

Ziva’s former wards include a couple of piglets and a Bengal cat named Leopold, who has really taken to Dinozzo.

“Ziva and Leopold fell in love with the little fox immediately,” the couple recalled.

As odd as this unique menagerie of animals may seem, they are all “very much like siblings in a family.”

“They are mostly peaceful, often playful and sometimes tired — sleeping together in one place.”

Dinozzo is now very much a domestic animal, and has free reign to come and go as he pleases (through the cat door, of course).

After a traumatic start in life, it looks as if this baby fox will be just fine.
