Girl Dresses Up As Her Hero, But People’s Reaction To Her Clothes Will Shock You

When Nathalie Andrea Aramburo’s professor asked the class to dress up as their favorite celebrity, Nathalie immediately knew who she would be: Malala Yousafzai, the 18-year-old Pakistani-Muslim woman who was shot in the face by Taliban gunmen at the age of 15 just for attending school.

As you’ll know, Malala is also the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner and a women’s rights activist.

And so the Florida-native put on a hijab, covered her body, and stepped outside, where she was confronted with shocking behavior:

“As I was driving, I have more than a few people roll their windows down to stick their middle fingers at me, near the Dunkin Donuts drive-thru a young white male threw his coffee at my car, and two F-250 trucks chanced me down on Jog Rd and tried to crash into my tiny Toyota Camry.”

“In just a 20 minute drive to class, I felt that my life was threatened.”

And so the young woman took to Facebook to share her experiences in a lengthy but eye-opening post. Her message? That “terrorism is not a fair representation of Islam. Someone wearing a hijab is simply a symbol of the Islam religion, but not of terrorist attacks.”

The response to her heartfelt words and striking picture have been staggering, with over 100,000 likes and nearly 40,000 shares at the time of writing. Nathalie was certainly not expecting such a reception:

“People are telling me that I’m brave… I’m not brave… I just need everyone to realize what discrimination is doing to society. There are people who deal with this prejudicing/ stereotyping constantly and continue to be proud of who they are… THEY are brave, NOT ME.”

Well said, Nathalie.
