Hearing about the plight of homeless people, 3-year-old Patrick McClung from Alaska, US, was so overwhelmed that — when he stopped sobbing — all he wanted to do was help people without their own homes this Christmas.
Patrick overheard mom Destinee talking about homeless people in Alaska and started asking questions, which Destinee decided to answer honesty.
She wrote on Facebook, “He asked some specific questions like ‘Where do they sleep?’ and ‘What do they eat?’ After I explained to him, he sat and sobbed and told me he didn’t want to have Christmas if other people don’t even have houses.”
Destinee caught some of their chat on film. Prepare your heartstrings for a tugging.
The only thing that consoled Patrick was his grandma’s promise to collect food for the homeless. But, wanting to get involved, Patrick formed an action plan with Destinee.
After reconsidering his suggested donations of “a pantry,” “a refrigerator” and “Band-Aids,” Patrick went with his family to set up donation boxes around their hometown of Anchorage.
Contributions including food, blankets, and diapers started flooding in.
And Patrick was delighted with everyone’s efforts (not a tear in sight!)
As if that wasn’t enough, Patrick also now volunteers with Destinee at the local soup kitchen.
Destinee credits Patrick’s incredibly kind heart to the family’s strong faith, including the hashtag #JesusWorkThroughToddlersToo” on many of her posts.
She added, “If each of us had a heart this big, we wouldn’t have these problems. Some day this kid is going to change the world.”
We certainly agree. Way to go, Patrick!
