Alexandra Mahjouri returned home last week to discover anyone’s worst nightmare; thieves had ransacked her home.
Burglars had stolen passports, emptied her 4-year-old son’s piggy bank and taken every single Christmas present from under the tree.
A devastated Alexandra took to Facebook to post an open letter to the thieves — not, as you’d expect, full of hate, but full of thanks:
“To whoever burgled our house, I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for taking our televisions, it means we’ve talked more as a family.”
“Thank you for making me realize all the materialistic items you took aren’t worth my tears, as we as a family are safe and unharmed and that’s the most important thing.”
“Thankfully we have managed to fool my little boy that his buddy the Elf and cat made the mess and we’ve got to try and find his things.”
“Thank you for making me realize how much of an amazing support network we have around us of people who have rang, messaged us, and come round to help and to comfort us.”
“Thank you for making me see the real importance of Xmas [sic]: spending time with loved ones and the whole imagination Christmas brings to children.”
“Thank you for making me realize how much I actually do truly love my husband and little boy.”
Alexandra ended the note with an open heart and, amazingly, forgiveness.
“Knowing that grown adults stole a 4-year-old boy’s money box … it makes me hope you’ve put that money to really good use… spend it on your children…”
“My dad was a really generous person and I’d like to think I am, too, so although you have broken my heart … I hope whatever you manage to sell it all for brings you and your family some sense of happiness.”
