Tilt-shift photography is a way to create a short depth of field and make a scene look miniature.
But it can also be simulated in Photoshop to reimagine art like this.
And make Van Gogh’s most famous Impressionist works come to life in stunning 3D.
In Starry Night Over the Rhone, two people stroll along the riverbank and the sky fades into the background.
While you feel like you could step into this pastoral scene.
These images were created by Serena Maylon, a third-year art student whose father founded Artcylopedia.
“I think [Van Gogh’s paintings] work really well because his painting technique already has a lot of depth to it,” she says.
“His work was also really interesting because his paintings include a number of interesting details that we could focus in on and make that the centerpiece of the painting.”
And Serena has been amazed by the public’s reaction to seeing Van Gogh’s work in a whole new way.
“I was very surprised by the reaction it received. We just thought that people who knew Van Gogh’s work would find it interesting and somewhat amusing to see it transformed.”
Serena also hints there could be more tilt-shifted artworks on the way.
“We’ve experimented with lots of different artists from different periods, we just haven’t published them yet.”
