What was the lunch menu at your school? We’re guessing nothing like what children at Japanese schools eat.
While the US and other countries struggle to design school meals that are healthy, tasty and affordable, Japan has effortlessly created an impressive system based on common sense and discipline.

In both elementary and middle schools, students wear white coats and caps to serve their classmates lunch (which has been made from scratch, of course).
Incredibly, the youngsters have learnt to go through food safety checks before serving food.
They get identical meals, and if they don’t eat their food, there are no vending machines to get a quick snack.
Children eat in their classrooms and clear up afterwards.
They even wash their milk cartons and dry them for recycling.
Finally, students (and their teachers) brush their teeth.
But that’s not all. After lunch, the children spend 20 minutes cleaning their school.
Japan’s system has paid off big time — its kids are relatively healthy and its child obesity rates are among the lowest in the world.
